The Smith Park team is designing and revitalizing Smith Park, a neighborhood park located in Greensboro, AL, that was damaged by a tornado. In fall 2024, the team held a community meeting on site at the park to discuss ideas for its future. The team used this information as they began preliminary designs for the space, including budgeting, material selection, and site placements of new infrastructure pieces. They also met with several design consultants to refine the design using natural and built landmarks at the park.
On site, the team prepared the space by removing a lot of the existing infrastructure, including perimeter and baseball field fencing, the existing basketball surface, the field light poles, and the baseball dugouts. The team, along with some helpers, completely transformed the park into a whole new space that is ready for its new look.
