Removed Comment It doesn’t get much better. Strange new worlds started strong but the last season really nose dived. We want episodic adventures! It’s not that hard. No one wants a multi season will they won’t they soapy romantic arc in trek by PunkRockSportsFan@fanaticus.social

Removed Comment What i know is this... gay aliens are acceptable, guy humans are not. Thats it in a nutshell, but it does get very complicated. Two simbiot women human kissing? Its ok because they are technically alien, but also ok because they are women, not men. Edit: ^this isnt my opinions, but rather how I assume most feel about the subject. That brings me to the new gay doctor. It isnt commentary on weird alien sexual stuff, no, it comes off as a political statement. It doesn't add to any space/alien stuff, rather it feels like an agenda being pushed... im not trying to offend anyone. My personal opinion? It feels like it wants to push a narrative, im not into the star trek hardly at all anymore. TOS, TNG, voyager and like half of DS9 is how I like star trek. The new crap is only that, crap... imo... by Getitupinyerstuffin'@lemmy.world

Removed Comment 1. They waste too much time as a high school romantic drama. 2. The musical was just the lowest point in the Star Trek Franchise [since the 70s homo-erotic animated series](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wUgdso7QMQ). 3. Fireplace on a starship...just shoot me now. 4. They spend a lot of time drinking and having parties. A lot of fucking around on Starfleet, what happened to all those sensors that need re-calibrating and re-aligning? by SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca

Removed Comment Did she write it? I don't fault the lead actress for a stupid movie. She still did a good job acting in it. I like her and I like her character. She probably did the best with what she was given. Her having to be the face of the apology is an insult, and those who should be apologizing are hiding behind her. Unless she wrote it, that is. Also. Discovery isn't what Trekkers want. Sure, it's cool... but OG Discovery predates Kirk, and the last couple seasons are set so far in the future that we really don't care. Discovery doesn't speak to TOS fans (though it tried to with that badly shoehorned Spock connection) and it doesn't speak to 90s Trekkers, either. *I* liked it, but it wasn't what Trekkers want. Look, TNG got a sequel series (Picard), Voyager got a sequel series (Prodigy)... what we want is for DS9 to get one. And since the Dominion War is over and done with, something with Section 31 would be fine... but that movie wasn't it. by CerebralHawks@lemmy.dbzer0.com

Restored Comment I know it wasnt the greatest thing that's ever been done under the star trek name, but I do think this could be the thing to get non Trekkies into trek. It was basically a fast and furious / mission impossible movie that happened to be in the star Trek universe. Sometimes something stupid but accessible can get people into a larger franchise. I am also really into Thunderbirds, the old puppet show made in the 60's it got repeated in the UK in the 90's and became a huge phenomenon way bigger than the first time it was shown. So inevitably a live action movie was made in the 00's and it was absolutely awful, however when I have encountered younger fans who are into Thunderbirds they always point to the live action as their first exposure to it which led onto the original show. The only way was up once you got into it. by blueamigafan@lemmy.world

Removed Comment If this is so, your comment makes no sense. If i didn't have an issue with it in the old trek, why would it be a problem now? To make it absolutely clear: the problem is the order of priorities - that diversity is no1 and storyline is no99. Not that diversity is there. For me, trek wasn't primarily about diversity. It was about space and exploration, ethical dilemmas. By 'chance' it happened to have a diverse crew and it was irrelevant who they were. Now, it's primarily about diversity, minorities and who is in the team... god forbid we have one minority unrepresented. Space and exploration come not even second, but way down the list. American society seems to overcompensate with that on TV to offset what is happening in the real world. For example making Cleopatra black. Connecting this to international companies I used to work for: It was always better in multi-cultural environment. But imagine if you have to hire every nationality just to put a checkbox on some list, regardless of what they know and can do. This is how this trailer feels: forced for no good reason. by ijhoo@lemmy.ml
