I don't think calling a ridiculous fee for a layover "a shakedown" qualifies as misinformation -- and you even agree with me that it would be ridiculous! I was using the term lightheartedly, and I realize that perhaps the tone didn't carry over in text for you, but it is -- *quite literally* -- extortion when a government overcharges people for trivial actions: > extortion noun > > 1 the act or practice of extorting especially money or other property especially : the offense committed by an official engaging in such practice > > 2 something extorted > especially : **a gross overcharge** From https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/extortion Emphasis mine.

> €20 (about $8) €20 is about $23.77 USD currently... > Required Even for Transit: If you have a layover in an ETIAS country, approval is mandatory. That just sounds like a shakedown to me.

> sorry I don’t get it You have to try so hard not to get it, but fortunately you have a lifetime of experience of intentionally not getting it.

Only if you want to travel every six months and always rent. Most places will give you a 90 day visa with a single 90 day extension. That means at least every six months if not more often you're going to have to uproot your life and live somewhere else. It's not horrible to do but something you'll have to budget for and think about. Also you'll have to make sure you maintain few possessions or keep storage space in at least 2 countries for your things.

Without further details this feels like a post to trap broke travelers abroad. Where can I earn 10k a month teaching English?
