The ethics of technology has primarily focused on what values are and how they can be embedded in technologies through design. In this context, some work has been done to show the efficacy of several design approaches. However, existing studies have not clearly pointed out the ways which design team managers can use design-for-values approaches to organise and use technologies in practice properly. This chapter attempts to fill this gap by discussing the value sensitive design (VSD) approach as a valuable (...) means of co-designing technologies as a toolkit for existing workflow management, in this case, Agile. This paper reassess the evaluation of ethical, legal and social issues in relation to the agile development of information systems in the domain of crisis management. The authors analyse the differing assessment needs of a move from a traditional approach to the development of information systems to an agile approach, which offers flexibility, adaptability and responds to the needs of users as the system develops. In turn, the authors argue that this development requires greater flexibility and an iterative (...) approach to assessing ELSI. The authors provide an example from the Horizon 2020 EU-funded project iTRACK to exemplify this move to an iterative approach in practice, drawing on the process of undertaking an ethical and privacy impact assessment for the purpose of this project. Evolving manufacturing management strategies pose changing business ethical challenges to the companies and society. The evolution is not one that continuously improves the business ethical performance, some aspects improve it and some other are detrimental. This paper explores the business ethical implications of the evolution of manufacturing management starting at the pre-industrial workshops until the introduction of agile manufacturing based on business ethical criteria drawn from business ethics (applied moral theory) and environmental law.

Sensory and tracking technologies are being introduced into workplaces in ways Taylor and the Gilbreths could only have imagined. New work design experiments merge wellness with productivity to measure and modulate the affective and emotional labour of resilience that is necessary to survive the turbulence of the widespread incorporation of agile management systems, in which workers are expected to take symbolic direction from machines. Capital’s accelerated attempts to capture more areas of work and workers’ capacities facilitate the conversion of labour power into a source of value but also results in alienation and abstraction. The concept of workforce agility has become increasingly popular in recent years as agile individuals are expected to be better able to handle change and uncertainty. However, agility has rarely been studied in a systematic way. Relations between agility and positive work outcomes, such as higher performance or increased well-being, have often been suggested but rarely been empirically tested. Furthermore, several different workforce agility measures are used in the literature which complicates the comparison of findings. Recognizing these gaps in (...) the literature, we developed a new workforce agility measure, compared this measure to established workforce agility measures, and empirically tested the relations of workforce agility with work outcomes. For this purpose, we surveyed participants from two samples. In a first step, we used Sample 1 to examine the factor structure of the measure for item selection. In a second step, we used Sample 2 to confirm the 10-factor structure and to compare the predictive validity of our measure along with two other agility measures. Findings demonstrate predictive validity for all three workforce agility scales, especially in relation to innovative performance. Furthermore, workforce agility related positively to task and innovative performance, organizational citizenship behavior, job satisfaction, and well-being. (shrink)

Gene discovery reveals new biology, expands the utility of marker‐assisted selection, and enables targeted mutagenesis. Still, such discoveries can take over a decade. We present a general strategy, “Agile Genetics,” that uses nested, structured populations to overcome common limits on gene resolution. Extensive simulation work on realistic genetic architectures shows that, at population sizes of >5000 samples, single gene‐resolution can be achieved using bulk segregant pools. At this scale, read depth and technical replication become major drivers of resolution. Emerging (...) enrichment methods to address coverage are on the horizon; we describe one possibility – iterative depth sequencing (ID‐seq). In addition, graph‐based pangenomics in experimental populations will continue to maximize accuracy and improve interpretation. Due to digital transformation, technology advancements, telework, we can no longer pretend that traditional work offers high incentives and efficiency, but on the contrary, traditional work falls behind each year, deeming organizations and individuals to adopt the agile work. Rapid technological developments have altered the way businesses operate, with the goal of producing viable solutions in an environment fraught with unpredictability. This paper is a theoretical narrative review on the general topic of agile work. The present paper addresses (...) the issue of determining the best international practices for implementing agile methodology at work, carrying out a theoretical narrative review. Basing on literature on present-day theory the authors make an attempt to explain the implications of implementing agile methodologies into organizational culture, summarize existing approaches to classifying the main effects on implementing agile methodologies at work, consolidate and document best international practices for agile methodologies development among employers. After defining the concepts of agile method tailoring and agile maturity, the data obtained in the theoretical narrative analysis reveal that the implementing agile methodologies have a direct impact on management style, on teams, on learning environments, and on employee’s mental health. An overall conclusions and discussions section is presented along with the personal opinion of authors. This paper examines public sentiment about Agile methodologies and Digital Transformation through high-end Twitter sentiment analysis techniques. Agile, initially developed for software development, is nowadays one of the most important drivers of innovation and adaptability in many sectors, whereas Digital Transformation reshapes the operations of organizations through the use of digital technologies. Understanding public sentiment toward these concepts is crucial for organizations that want to align their strategy with new trends and adapt to an increasingly digital world. This (...) approach is further fine-tuned in this research through the incorporation of advanced data preprocessing techniques and the application of more sophisticated analytical tools. VADER sentiment analysis is used to catch the polarity of sentiments expressed on social media. It also includes the adoption of Latent Dirichlet Allocation, or LDA, topic modeling in order to mine further into the conversations on Agile and Digital Transformation. This constituted some methodological improvements in this study that can allow nuanced understanding of emotions, opinions, and ideas that dominate public discourse on these transformative methodologies. This research performs an in-depth examination of the patterns of sentiment expressed through Twitter, termed a real-time barometer of public opinion, by analyzing a dataset of 1,014 tweets using the hashtags Agile and Digital Transformation tweets collected during the period from January 31, 2023, to August 18, 2023. On the other hand, integrating topic modeling will enable the identification of key areas of interest in public discussions: the role of AI and automation, organizational challenges, and finally best practices regarding the implementation of Agile. This paper gives a wider outlook on Agile and Digital Transformation from the perspective of public engagement and provides useful insights into their practice, research, and policy implications. The findings will be useful for organizational decisions, communications, and the development of better strategies in response to perceived public views and trends that arise with digital innovations. The Western world is in the habit of looking at the history of visual art ‘in closeup’ - single image by single image - and receiving its information about art history in that uniquely particulate form. But if instead we distance ourselves a little from the history of art, enough to see it ‘in long-shot’ as it were - i.e. as a more or less continuous, dense flow of images - patterns emerge in the flow which convey new information, which (...) can sometimes be in direct conflict with long-cherished traditional assumptions. If we use the 25,000 plus year of art history in this way as a ‘barium tracer meal’ for cultural evolution itself, it is unexpectedly revealed as punctuated rather than gradual, driven by alternating phases of open and closed growth in the human ecology, each with its own characteristic pressures of cultural selection. As a result human culture itself has two equally valid but opposite ‘fitness landscapes’: in the past 500 years the more successful strand in Western civilization has been the Type-A low-cohesion/ high-agility culture associated with a phase of open evolution involving our species relatively rapid transition from a manual to a machine ecology. The West’s traditional object-based imagery of painting and sculpture has its origins in that period of accelerating pre-industrial and industrial growth with its characteristic ‘economics of plenty’ epitomized by a triumphant capitalism. But the newly-emergent event-based imagery of installations and contextual art of the later twentieth and early twenty-first century is now indicating the gradual emergence (or more properly re-emergence) of the Type-B high-cohesion/lowagility pattern, previously associated with so-called ‘primitive’ cultures, and here with the global consolidation of our new machine ecology in a world increasingly dominated by the economics of scarcity. If that is so, it is probable that the syncretic form of meaning associated with the ‘sticky memes’ of art will increasingly come to challenge the present cultural dominance of analytic meaning, epitomized by the ‘smooth memes’ of science. The resolution of that conflict in evolutionary semantics may have a direct bearing on our species capacity to survive into the future. Whether it will be more decisively resolved within the Western or the Eastern group of civilizations seems at present a very open question. (shrink)

Abstract: The study aimed to identify the reality of the application of strategic agility in the Palestinian civil organizations in Gaza Strip, and the concept of strategic agility has included a number of areas which are (strategic sensitivity, clarity of vision, choice of strategic goals, rapid response, joint responsibility, taking actions, core capabilities) and the study used An analytical descriptive approach, and the questionnaire as a main tool for collecting data from the employees of the associations operating in the governorates (...) of Gaza Strip. The relative weight of the strategic agility scale reached (79.04 %), and there were statistically significant differences in the dimensions of the measure due to the gender variable in the dimensions of strategic agility (strategic sensitivity, clarity of vision, choice of strategic goals, rapid response, and taking measures) and the differences were in favor of females . While there were no statistically significant differences in my dimension (shared responsibility, core capabilities) attributable to the gender variable, there were no statistically significant differences between the mean dimensions of strategic agility due to the age group variable, the educational qualification, and the study presented a set of recommendations, the most important of which are: the necessity of seeking civil organizations In Gaza Strip, by obtaining funding from external countries in order to provide associations with self-income to face crises and give them independence in order to preserve them in order to play their role in society, the need to follow up on the strategic plan for NGOs using electronic messages where It paves the way to reach excellence and creativity in the field of work, the need to hold meetings and workshops with the local community and this helps them to define the needs of society. This study critically examines the efficacy of Agile project management frameworks within the context of Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) in Cebu I.T. Park, Philippines. Employing a descriptivecorrelational research design, it gathers insights from 30 participants, comprising rank-and-file employees and management personnel, to evaluate client satisfaction, Agile framework effectiveness, project success metrics, client-provider communication, and continuous improvement practices. The study aims to explore disparities in perceptions between these groups and their implications for Agile adoption. Findings reveal notable differences (...) in how Agile frameworks are perceived and practiced. Rank-and-file employees generally rate Agile practices more favorably, highlighting moderate implementation in areas like client satisfaction and project success metrics. Conversely, management personnel express reservations, rating several indicators as less practiced, particularly in communication and Agile framework effectiveness. These disparities underscore a disconnect between leadership and frontline staff, which hinders consistent implementation and alignment with organizational goals. However, management personnel recognize the importance of continuous improvement, providing a foundation for bridging these gaps. The study recommends targeted training programs, enhanced communication strategies, and the establishment of clear success metrics to align perspectives and foster a culture of collaboration. Incorporating customer feedback loops and iterative development cycles is also emphasized to enhance client satisfaction and adaptability. By addressing these challenges, organizations can optimize Agile adoption, improve project outcomes, and achieve greater efficiency and client satisfaction. Purpose This research develops the concept of omni-leadership and highlight the importance of digital agility and strategic communications as decisive enablers of digital transformation. This study aims to address five primary questions: identifying the defining characteristics of omni-leadership; understanding how it facilitates digital transformation; detailing the specific digital agility practices that enhance educational and operational effectiveness; examining the challenges faced by university leaders during the digital transformation process; and providing recommendations for an Omni-leadership model within the context of higher education (...) institutions in Indonesia. Design/methodology/approach The study employs a qualitative methodology, combining semi-structured interviews with university leaders and reviewing existing digital initiatives to provide comprehensive insights into leadership dynamics and agility in the digital era. Findings The research reveals that omni-leadership, corroborated by robust communication management strategies, enables leaders to bridge education’s physical and digital realms effectively. Through multichannel engagement, inclusive decision-making and adaptive learning technologies, omni-leaders foster collaboration, innovation and resilience. Originality/value This study provides actionable recommendations for implementing omni-leadership in Indonesian and global higher education, contributing to the broader discourse on leadership and strategic communication in the digital era. The fundamental purpose of this research work was to explain how the management of agile methodologies for the development of competencies of university students in the Peruvian context. Based on this question, it has been hypothesized that agile methodologies significantly help the development of students' competencies. This is complemented by a quantitative approach study, with a quasi-experimental design of the "Design with pre-test - post-test with experimental groups and control groups" model. The students of the one Peruvian University (...) were considered as the study population, of which the students of the Faculty of Initial Education were taken as a study sample, within which 100 students participated as an experimental group. 100 from V, VII, X cycle and as a control group 100 students from II, III, and IV cycle respectively. Therefore, as the main result, it is evident that, with a bilateral significance of.000 less than the predetermined significance of 0.05 and a result of F = 1.013, they confirm that the first condition of equality of variances is met and thus establish the Test of the General Hypothesis or HG according to the normal "Z" equal to 8.965, in the case of two independent samples and a difference of 3.81 plus Gl = 51 degrees of freedom and assuming a 95% confidence level, the hypothesis is rejected null and the alternative Hypothesis is accepted, concluding that agile methodologies significantly help the development of students' competencies with a significance of pv,000.. Since the early 1990's the value sensitive design (VSD) approach has been a continually burgeoning design methodology for technological innovation. VSD is commonly described as a "principled approach" to technology design, given that it is explicitly orientated towards designing technologies for human values, rather than sidelining them to ad hoc and/or ex post facto design. However, in much of its near three-decades-long development, the VSD approach has mostly been adopted as a conceptual framework to assess existing technologies and to explore (...) how the consequences of the technology's development could have been influenced positively if VSD was adopted early on and throughout the design process (Friedman et al. 2002). Similarly, VSD has been adopted as a conceptual framework for analysing how future speculative technologies like molecular manufacturing (Umbrello 2019) and advanced artificial intelligence systems can be directed towards positive futures (Umbrello and van de Poel 2021). Yet, despite the benefits of these endeavours and VSD being an approach that can be adapted to any given design domain, it has yet to be widely appropriated in existing design spaces as a primary design approach. In this short paper, we aim to fill this lacuna by framing VSD as a toolkit that can be adopted by existing design teams rather than a wholesale approach. In particular, we describe how VSD maps seamlessly onto agile workflows, an approach to project management that is widely adopted globally. By doing so, we hope that the VSD approach will likewise be more attractive and thus adopted more broadly. As a consequence, a more explicit orientation towards designing technologies for human values will follow. (shrink)

We understand regulatory policy problems against the backdrop of existing implementations of a regulatory framework. There are argument schemes for proposing a policy and for criticising a proposal, rooted in a shared understanding that there is an existing regulatory framework which is implemented in social structures in society, yet has problems. The problems with the existing implementations may be attributed either to those implementations or to the constraints imposed by the regulatory framework. In this paper we propose that calls for (...) change of regulatory policy, and case-based and statistical evidence produced in support of policy proposals, are based in model-based problem solving activities. This perspective suggests schemes for a good argument pro or con a policy proposal, while avoiding the problem of backing up claims and evidence on the policy level with a conjectural deep model of the policy domain. Corporate sustainability introduces multiple tensions or paradoxes into organisations which defy traditional approaches such as trading-off contrasting options. We examine an alternative approach: to manage corporate sustainability with a paradoxical lens where contradictory elements are managed concurrently. Drawing on paradox theory, we focus on two specific pathways: to the organisation-wide acceptance of paradox and to paradoxical resolution. Introducing the concept of strategic agility, we argue that strategically agile organisations are better placed to navigate these paradox pathways. Strategic agility comprises (...) three organisational meta-capabilities: strategic sensitivity, collective commitment, and resource fluidity. We propose that strategically agile organisations draw on strategic sensitivity and collective commitment to achieve organisation-wide acceptance of paradox, and collective commitment and resource fluidity to achieve paradoxical resolution. For each of these meta-capabilities, we identify three organisational practices and processes specifically related to corporate sustainability that organisations can leverage in pursuit of strategic agility. We offer a conceptual framework depicting the strategic agility meta-capabilities, and associated practices and processes, which organisations draw on to successfully manage corporate sustainability with a paradoxical lens. Toxic workplace environments, especially those involving gaslighting, are known to contribute to stress and excessive work habits, such as workaholism, which may hinder a nurse's agility—an essential skill in adapting to fast‐paced healthcare environments. However, the interplay between workplace gaslighting, workaholism, and agility in nursing remains underexplored. This study aims to investigate the relationship between workplace gaslighting, workaholism, and agility among nurses, focusing on how gaslighting moderates this relationship. This study is a multicenter cross‐sectional that was conducted among 594 full‐time (...) nurses from three major hospitals in Egypt. Data were collected using the Gaslighting at Work Questionnaire, Workforce Agility Scale, and Bergen Work Addiction Scale. Correlation and regression analyses were performed to test the study hypotheses. Results revealed that nurses reported moderate levels of workaholism, workplace gaslighting, and agility. Significant negative correlations were found between agility and both workplace gaslighting and workaholism. Gaslighting negatively moderated the relationship between workaholism and agility, exacerbating the impact of workaholism on nurses' ability to remain agile. The findings indicate that toxic workplace behaviors, such as gaslighting and workaholism, undermine nurses' agility. Regulatory safeguards are necessary to protect nurses from such environments, ensuring both their well‐being and the quality of healthcare services. These findings call for the development of national standards and policies to address workplace mental health and ensure accountability in healthcare settings. (shrink)

This study examines how businesses manage uncertainty through a combination of emerging technologies, organizational agility, and sustainability practices. Using an integrative literature review and case studies across global regions, the research identifies strategies that enhance decision-making and resilience in volatile environments. The study draws on Dynamic Capabilities Theory and Organisational Information Processing Theory to analyze how companies leverage Big Data, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Blockchain to navigate uncertainty while ensuring ethical standards. Key findings suggest that firms that adopt flexible organizational (...) structures and sustainable technologies are better positioned to mitigate risks and maintain a competitive edge. Ethical considerations, such as managing algorithmic biases and data privacy, are highlighted as essential for the responsible adoption of these technologies. Dodgeball is gaining popularity as a recreational sport worldwide. While the Philippines has a strong sports culture, much has focused on more traditional sports such as basketball, volleyball, and athletics. This study evaluates the effect of Filipino dodgeball game on agility, speed, and special endurance of university students and examines the sex difference based on the results. Forty-eight undergraduate students enrolled in the Physical Activity Towards Health and Fitness (PATHFIT) 2 course in the same program and had no existing medical (...) condition participated in the study. Using a nonrandomized trial involving two groups, utilizing pre- and post-tests, the study spanned three phases: (i) one week dedicated to pre-testing and a dry run game for familiarization; (ii) an eight-week game competition; and (iii) one week for post-testing. Similar procedures were applied in both tests. The results showed that the 8-week dodgeball competition significantly influenced the speed, agility, and endurance of participants (p ≤ 0.0001). The agility of male participants greatly improved compared to females (p ≤0.05). Meanwhile, the speed of female participants significantly improved compared to male participants (p ≤ 0.001). The improvement in special endurance shows no significant difference between the groups (p ≥ 0.05). The proponents of this study encourage physical educators at the tertiary level to include dodgeball competitions in the course curriculum to improve the physical performance and activity participation of their students as required in PATHFIT courses. This paper investigates how people perceive and evaluate authorship in AI-generated texts, situating these practices within broader questions of AI literacy. Using data from a two-year experimental study (_N_ = 88) on blind assessments of paired human and AI-authored texts across three genres, we examine the interpretive strategies respondents mobilize. Theoretically, we draw on Gregory Bateson’s metacommunication and Erving Goffman’s frame theory to analyze how communicative frames become unstable when the nature of the author is uncertain, and what interpretive labor (...) is required to navigate that instability. Our results show that overall attribution accuracy seldom exceeds chance, and that reliance on surface-level heuristics, such as grammar checks and formatting cues, frequently backfires. In contrast, domain expertise, sender familiarity, and contextual knowledge are stronger predictors of correct attribution. Participants achieve their highest detection rates where multi-patterned heuristic evaluation is possible, as in genre-rich, culturally familiar contexts, and their lowest where formal institutional conventions constrain interpretation to surface features alone. Paradoxically, incorrect respondents are more likely to report high certainty than correct ones, suggesting that reliance on isolated cues produces false confidence. These findings recast authorship attribution as a cultural practice rather than technical competency. Situated and tacit responses, including whether a text feels captivating, prove more predictive than formal linguistic analysis. We conclude by arguing for a reconceptualization of AI literacy centered on what we term metacommunicative agility: the capacity to shift fluidly between interpretive frames, navigating meaning across unstable communicative registers rather than seeking definitive detection markers. The future of work has become a pressing matter of concern: Researchers, business consultancies, and industrial companies are intensively studying how new work models could be best implemented to increase workplace flexibility and creativity. In particular, the agile model has become one of the “must-have” elements for re-organizing work practices, especially for technology development work. However, the implementation of agile work often comes together with strong presumptions: it is regarded as an inevitable tool that can be universally integrated (...) into different workplaces while having the same outcome of flexibility, transparency, and flattened hierarchies everywhere. This paper challenges such essentializing assumptions by turning agile work into a “matter of care.” We argue that care work occurs in contexts other than feminized reproductive work, namely, technology development. Drawing on concepts from feminist Science and Technology Studies and ethnographic research at agile technology development workplaces in Germany and Kenya, we examine what work it takes to actually keep up with the imperative of agile work. The analysis brings the often invisibilized care practices of human and nonhuman actors to the fore that are necessary to enact and stabilize the agile promises of flexibilization, co-working, and rapid prototyping. Revealing the caring sociotechnical relationships that are vital for working agile, we discuss the emergence of power asymmetries characterized by hierarchies of skills that are differently acknowledged in the daily work of technology development. The paper ends by speculating on the emancipatory potential of a care perspective, by which we seek to inspire careful Emancipatory Technology Studies. (shrink)

This paper is an empirical investigation of how Agile and Plan-based companies address teamwork. We have performed an investigation interviewing managers of 64 companies, 23 agile (hereafter defined with the term “agile companies”) and 41 non-agile (“plan-based”). The results of the study evidence a quite different approach to teamwork and team organization. Such differences are mainly in the selection of the developers and in the emphasis of the collaboration in the development teams.

Management are increasingly using adaptive and agile organisations as a means to competitive advantage. In these organisations there is a flux in membership of work groups and organisation in response to external environment. The theory of complex adaptive systems suggests that the application of a few simple rules can lead to complex structures. But is there a relationship between the members of the organisation? Do they constitute a group, or an organisation? The paper advances a number of reasons why (...) adaptive and agile enterprises may not be organisations in the accepted sense of the word. Implications are drawn with respect to the current demands for accountability and for the application of management processes and management development techniques which are based on groups.The paper draws on the work of Amelie Rorty on identity, Margaret Gilbert on groups and Chris Provis on trust. It is also informed by activity in the multi-national SYMPHONY project, which is developing management tools for networked enterprises which have a high knowledge component in the value stream and operate in rapidly changing and uncertain environments. In several studies, knowledge is witnessed as one of the foundations of long-term competitive edge and is also a basic source of new product development (NDP) performance. The aim of this study is to investigate the role of knowledge management capabilities (KMC) in new product development performance with the mediating role of organizational agility. Additionally, this study also intends to examine the moderating role of business model innovation on the relationship of KMC with organizational agility. This study was conducted on (...) the Chinese automobile sector, and the NPD project managers, supervisors, and engineers of the sector were respondents of this study. A survey questionnaire was used to collect the data from 201 respondents, and data were analyzed using the Smart PLS 3 software. The findings of this research, although limited to the automobile industries, indicate that knowledge sharing and knowledge application have significant and positive effects on the development of new products. Organizational agility significantly mediates the relationship of KMC with NPD. The results found that business model innovation has a significant moderating role in the relationship between KMC and organizational agility. Moreover, the results of this study will assist the managers in developing a modern competitive business environment by implicating KMC in the process of NPD. Lastly, organizations may improve the sustainability of their product and their overall performance by using organizational agility and modern ways of value delivery. (shrink)

The present article attempts to examine the relationship between learning agility and authentic leadership development. The recent rise in the cases of fraud involving leaders at various levels in the organizations, and the resulting distrust among the employees towards their leaders, points to the need to have authentic leaders, given the positive organizational outcomes associated with this leadership approach. Further, scholars have suggested that leadership development is possible through learning from one’s life experiences. The developmental definition of authentic leadership also (...) reflects the importance of learning from past experiences. Yet, studies have largely overlooked to explore the association between learning agility and authentic leadership development. This paper further tries to analyze the moderating effects of learning goal orientation and organizational culture on this relationship. Therefore, based on the existing research, the associations among these factors have been delineated and a conceptual model has been presented along with several propositions. Ethical, legal and social implications are widely regarded as important considerations with respect to technological developments. Agile Worth-Oriented Systems Engineering is an innovative approach to incorporating ethically relevant criteria during agile development processes through a flexibly applicable methodology. First, a predefined model for the ethical evaluation of socio-technical systems is used to assess ethical issues according to different dimensions. The second part of AWOSE ensures that ethical issues are not only identified, but also systematically considered during the design (...) of systems based on information and communication technology. For this purpose, the findings from the first step are integrated with approaches from worth-centered development into a process model that, unlike previous approaches to ethical system development, is thoroughly compatible with agile methodologies like Scrum or Extreme Programming. Artifacts of worth-centered development called Worth Maps have been improved to guide the prioritization of development tasks as well as choices among design alternatives with respect to ethical implications. Furthermore, the improved Worth Maps facilitate the identification of suitable criteria for system evaluations in association to ethical concerns and desired positive outcomes of system usage. The potential of the AWOSE methodology has been demonstrated in the context of a technical system that supports elderly and people with particular handicaps. (shrink)

The article attempts a philosophical and cultural-theoretical interpretation of the deep transformations of organizational culture in the context of the contemporary digital turn. The focus of the research is on the phenomenon of the implementation of Agile philosophy in Russian IT companies, which is considered not merely as a managerial innovation but as a large-scale sociocultural event that reveals the conflict between different discursive formations and archetypal matrices. The methodological synthesis of Michel Foucault's genealogical analysis of power, Carl Gustav (...) Jung's archetypal theory, and Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari's rhizomatic model makes it possible to reconstruct the process of hybridization, which gives rise to the phenomenon of "controlled self-organization" – a stable form of corporate culture in which the language games of flexibility and autonomy paradoxically serve the purposes of reproducing and perfecting control mechanisms. Based on empirical material (case studies of SberTech, Rostelecom, Yandex, Mail.ru Group, Kaspersky, and others), the author demonstrates how, under the influence of the global Agile discourse, what occurs is not a simple replacement but a complex semiotic recoding of entrenched cultural archetypes ("Soviet Paternalist", "Engineer-God", "Survivor"), thereby generating new hybrid subjectivities ("Translator", "Architect", "Communicator"). It is ultimately concluded that the organizational culture of the Russian IT sector represents a rhizomatic symbiosis, where the interaction of archetypes forms a non-hierarchical network, and Agile acts as a plane for the constant redefinition of relations between power, knowledge, and collective identity. Lean design and agile design paradigms have been proposed for designing robots; yet, none of them could strike a balance between cost-effectiveness and short duration of the design process without compromising the quality of performance. The present article identifies the key determinants of the mobile robots development process. It also identifies empirically the mobile robot design activities and strategies with the most influence on mobile robot performance. The study identified statistically the mobile robot design activities and strategies most positively (...) correlated with mobile robot performance. The results showed that 65% of typical mobile robot design activities and strategies are affiliated with the lean design paradigm, while the remaining 35% are affiliated with the agile design paradigm. In addition, it was found that 22% of the lean mobile robot design activities and strategies and 25% of the agile mobile robot design activities and strategies, significantly with 99% confidence, are among the design activities and strategies most positively correlated with improving mobile robot performance. A hybrid lean-agile design paradigm is thus proposed. (shrink)

The main purpose of this study is to examine the impact of the big data management capabilities on the performance of manufacturing firms in the Asian Economy during coronavirus disease 2019. In addition to this, this study is also planned to examine the mediating role of organizational agility in the relationship between the big data management capabilities and the performance of Chinese manufacturing firms during COVID-19. Last, this study has examined the moderating role of information technology capability in the relationship (...) between the big data management capabilities and performance of Chinese manufacturing firms during COVID-19. This study adopted the quantitative method of research with a cross-sectional technique. This study employed a questionnaire to gather the data as a research instrument. This study has used the purposive sampling method by keeping in mind the context of this study. Employees of the Chinese SMEs that were at least 10 years old were the population of this study. The research model was being analyzed by employing the “partial least squares” technique through statistical software the Smart PLS version 3. The results are in line with the proposed hypothesis. This study contributed to the literature by suggesting characteristics that promote or prevent the organization from successfully implementing big data and pointed out that showing resistance in information management system implementation may have different effects on the organization. Besides, the study also discussed the relationship between such information systems and the organization. Findings of these two factors provide insights for the practitioners and researchers in assessing the success or failure of organizations for using big data. (shrink)

The aim of this study was to evaluate the neuromuscular response to an agility and repeated sprint ability test according to the level of competition in futsal players. A total of 33 players from two elite teams and one amateur team participated in the study. The participants completed an agility t-test, a 30 m-speed test, and a RSA test. A countermovement jump test and a tensiomyography test of the rectus femoris and biceps femoris of both legs were carried out before (...) and after the tests. RSA test revealed better sprint times in elite players compared to amateurs in the seven bouts, as well as in the 30 m sprint and in the agility test. In conclusion, elite players showed greater performance in the RSA test, in the 30 m tests and in the agility test compared to amateur players. The contractile properties were not a key factor in the RSA performance of the futsal players. (shrink)

The role of software architecture in large-scale Agile development is important because several teams need to work together to release a single software product while helping to maximise teams’ autonomy. Governing and aligning Agile architecture across autonomous squads, when using the Spotify model, is a challenge because the Spotify model lacks practices for addressing Agile architecture governance. To explore how software architecture can be governed and aligned by scaling the Spotify model, we conducted a longitudinal embedded case (...) study in a multinational FinTech organisation. Then, we developed and evaluated an approach for architectural governance by conducting an embedded case study. The collected data was analysed using Thematic Analysis and informed by selected Grounded Theory techniques such as memoing, open coding, constant comparison, and sorting. Our approach for architectural governance comprises an organisational structure change and an architecture change management process. The benefits reported by the practitioners include devolving architectural decision-making to the operational level, enhancing architectural knowledge sharing among squads, minimising wasted effort in architectural refactoring, and other benefits. The practitioners in our case study realised an improved squad autonomy by the ability to govern and align architectural decisions. We provide two key contributions in this paper. First, we present the characteristics of our proposed architectural governance approach, its evaluation, benefits, and challenges. Second, we present how the novel Heterogeneous Tailoring model was enhanced to accommodate our architectural governance approach. (shrink)

The mechanism influencing resource bricolage driving low-cost breakthrough innovations remains unclear. By introducing exaptation and organizational agility, this study creates a regulated mediation model, explores effects of resource bricolage on low-cost breakthrough innovations, and analyzes the moderating effect of organizational agility and mediation effect of exaptation. The results revealed that resource bricolage exerted a significant positive impact on low-cost breakthrough innovations, and exaptation played a mediation role between resource bricolage and low-cost breakthrough innovations. In addition, both marketing agility and operational (...) agility positively regulated the correlation between resource bricolage and exaptation. Further research revealed that the mediation effect of exaptation was positively regulated by marketing agility and operational agility, respectively. Overall, this study enriches the discussion of the impact mechanism of breakthrough innovations by resource bricolage and provides valuable enlightenment for enterprises to implement innovation-driven development strategies in the context of economic transformation. This study aims to create a research model that examines how employee agility is affected by enterprise social media usage, and to discuss the moderating role of innovation culture in communication quality, trust, and employee agility using the relational capital theory. Data of 477 Chinese employees from different companies were collected in this study for analysis, and the hypotheses developed were examined. The purpose of this study was to explore the influence mechanism that propels employees’ ESMU, communication quality and trust (...) and the moderating effect of innovation culture. This study conducts PLS-SEM to analyze collected data. The results show that ESMU is positively associated with communication quality and trust; innovation culture plays a positive moderating role in ESMU and employee agility; and high communication quality and trust can lead to high agility. However, innovation culture does not have a remarkable moderating effect on ESMU and communication quality. This study offers empirical evidence on how the effect of ESMU on employee agility is transferred by innovation culture. In addition, the benefits of enterprise social media for organizational management are also measured in this study, which may motivate the managements to introduce enterprise social media in work spaces. Organizations worldwide are experiencing rapid changes in their natural, global, corporate, and technological environments. Organizations are attempting to react and adapt to this development to ensure their continued survival. After all, companies that are more adaptable and agile than their competitors have a better chance of surviving.The classic definition of agility is the capacity to move quickly and with ease. In human resource management (HRM), agility involves the capacity to swiftly adjust and optimize processes and personnel in response to (...) sudden shifts in both the internal and external environments of the company. In most firms, agility occurs at the human, strategic, and organizational levels and is increasingly integrated into day-to-day operations. The ability to perceive market shifts as opportunities, respond swiftly to them (if not create them), and turn them into advantages will help the business gain a competitive edge. Businesses with an agile mindset prioritize their employees, adress new issues more effectively, acquire knowledge and training more quickly and successfully, and adapt to changes more quickly and favorably. Agile methods and strategies enhance employee adaptability and autonomy by fostering a continuous flow of feedback. An agile transformation leader within an organization is an agile leader who supports, assists, and guides others through the process of adopting agility. Work is performed by self-organizing functional teams, with decision-making shared among employees rather than centralized as before. Greater autonomy leads to higher motivation, making employees more engaged team members. They are also more willing to learn and enhance their VCEN and competencies, thereby improving their work. As a prerequisite for success, this promotes social responsibility, if practices align with the three fundamental characteristics of ISO 26000: taking responsibility for one’s impact on society, interconnectedness, and holism; these are backed by seven principles: “accountability, transparency, ethical behavior, and respect for the interests of stakeholders, the rule of law, international norms, and human rights”. This study addresses the most important interface between talent management and organizational agility within a governmental sector context. Quantitatively, data was collected from a sample of 400 employees across the governmental entities in Ajman. The results are statistically significant in the prediction of organizational agility from the dimensions of talent management that include recruitment, training and development, reward management, and performance management. Regression analyses further indicate that these dimensions explain 91.5% of variance in strategic orientation-and by implication-centrally involved in cultivating (...) responsiveness and adaptability. This study thereby also informatively contributes to the theory of dynamic capability by informing leaders in the public sector how to position their entities in pursuit of enhanced agility through strategic human capital management. This includes recommendations such as agility-centered recruitment and adaptive reward systems. The aim of this research is to determine the effects of applying agile internal audit using the updated COBIT framework on reducing IT risks in Iraqi private banks, agile internal audit is an updated and developed methodology characterized by flexibility, efficiency and the ability to adapt and respond to rapid changes, which helps improve audit procedures and achieve added value, especially when it is used with the IT governance framework (COBIT) in its updated and latest version, which strengthens (...) this framework of IT governance and management, preparing a common methodology and can be integrated through the harmonization of agile principles with control processes with the aim of reducing IT risks. The results of the research showed that the use of an agile internal audit approach and the application of the principles of the the application of agile internal auditing and the application of the principles of the updated COBIT framework has a positive impact on reducing and minimizing IT risks and working to reduce the costs associated with operational risks. This integration contributes to interpersonal collaboration, continuous improvement, and responsiveness to technology risks. In light of these findings, the research recommends a phased approach to COBIT implementation, where it is recommended to apply it according to the needs of each bank, starting with high priority areas to mitigate IT-related risks.
