Abstract

The paper discusses whether natural phenomena such as epidemics and pandemics of communicable diseases can be interpreted as social pathologies. While providing a positive answer to the question, the manuscript tries to define a set of criteria – a rupture of biological normativity and an evaluation of epidemics’ social impact – that can help to determine in which circumstances such natural phenomena fall under the label of “social pathologies”.
