Self-regulation, which subsumes variables like emotional and behavioral regulation is usually measured using self-report and qualitative techniques, but biomarkers like heart rate variability (HRV) are also indicative of self-regulation. This study understood whether using a mindfulness-based virtual reality (VR) technology, aloeVR, produced adaptive effects on the HRV and self-reported emotional regulation of neurodivergent middle schoolers diagnosed with ASD, ADHD, specific learning disability, other health impairments and their comorbidities. We expand upon extant research in special education, clinical and mental health settings (...) showing how VR environments can provide safe spaces to reduce stress, anxiety, and improve social skills for neurodivergent children. We investigated whether using aloeVR could produce short-term adaptive changes in students’ physiological states (HRV) that co-occurred with trends in self-reported application of emotion regulation strategies. Linear mixed modelling of HRV metrics and emotion regulation surveys from 12 participants who underwent four weeks of traditional counseling check-ins, and four weeks of aloeVR-assisted check-ins revealed that: (1) post-session HRV increased after the commencement of aloeVR sessions, (2) while there was no consistent upward trend in external emotion regulation, survey scores were higher on average during aloeVR-assisted check-ins, (3) there were no improvements in internal emotion regulation survey scores. Results suggest that cognitive self-reports may lag behind physiological well-being markers, and behavioral self-reports. Outcomes also illustrate that aloeVR, by itself, may only produce short-term physiological changes immediately post-exposure. The technology must be paired with explicit socioemotional instruction to produce pronounced consistent changes in how students apply socioemotional skills in everyday life. (shrink)

: In the present paper we give a new method for estimation and quantification of Heart Rate Variability (HRV) in the VLF,LF,HF bands using the basic concept of variability previously introduced. The method enables to quantify ANS modulation of R-R intervals. In the subsequent paper we will give detailed exposition of the performed and confirming experiments.

Objective Projection (OP) proposes that narrative texts can elicit reproducible biophysical responses in readers, independent of subjective emotional labels. The first iteration, OPCT v1.0, defined a measurement protocol using electrocardiography (EKG), galvanic skin response (GSR), and pupillometry during reading, but limitations in sample size, author variance control, and statistical rigor necessitated refinement. Here, I present OPCT v2.0, a preregistered experimental framework designed to systematically evaluate whether the same physical narrative matrix produces convergent biophysical outputs across multiple authors. In OPCT v2.0, (...) three authors independently generate text from an identical Objective Projection Matrix (OPM), adhering to controlled syntax, word count, and prohibition of affective labeling. -/- A sample of 80 participants reads all texts in a randomized within-subject design, with baseline and washout periods to reduce carryover effects. Biophysical outputs — including heart rate variability (HRV), skin conductance, and pupil dilation — are recorded continuously. Mixed-effects models analyze author and participant effects, while inter-subject correlation and effect size metrics quantify convergence. Confounders such as reading speed, text difficulty, and attention are monitored. This protocol explicitly separates biophysical output from subjective emotional labeling, addressing criticisms regarding variability in individual affective responses. The study's preregistered design, inclusion of confidence intervals, and replication plan across independent laboratories aim to maximize falsifiability. Closed-loop meditation systems monitor neurophysiological signals during practice and deliver adaptive feedback intended to accelerate the development of contemplative skills. We argue that these systems face a structural problem isomorphic to a well-recognised failure mode in AI alignment research: proxy reward misspecification. When a meditator optimises for a measurable biomarker, such as calm EEG, HRV coherence, or default mode network suppression, they may learn strategies that produce the proxy signal without the intended underlying capacity. We formalise this as the contemplative (...) alignment problem, distinguishing three sub-problems: outer alignment (whether the proxy captures the contemplative target), inner alignment (whether the learned strategy corresponds to the intended mechanism), and distributional robustness (whether trained capacities transfer to unassisted practice and ordinary life). We show that Buddhist phenomenological literature independently identified these failure modes in substantial detail, providing a rich descriptive vocabulary that the contemplative neurotechnology field has not yet engaged. We propose a four-tier taxonomy of contemplative measurability, distinguishing states that are reliably measurable with current technology from states that may be structurally unmeasurable in third-person terms. Finally, we outline a minimal closed-loop architecture restricted to Tier-1 attentional targets, with a falsifiable hypothesis and an explicit transfer test as the primary outcome measure. We argue that this restraint is not a limitation but a prerequisite for scientific and ethical credibility in the field. (shrink)

This paper explores how meditation serves as a tool to modulate and reconfigure the cognitive boundary between the subjective self and objective reality. By integrating Cognitive Constructivism (CC)—which views the mind as a "prediction machine" that constructs experienced reality—with Existential Realism (ER)—which emphasizes the primacy of the immediate "now"—the study examines the deconstruction of internal mental models. A mixed-methods neurophenomenological approach is proposed, combining micro-phenomenological interviews with psychophysiological measures like EEG, fMRI, and Heart Rate Variability (HRV). Evidence suggests that expert (...) meditators exhibit significantly reduced activity in the Default Mode Network (DMN), particularly the posterior cingulate cortex (PCC), which correlates with a decrease in self-referential narrative and the dissolution of spatial self-boundaries. Phenomenological reports further validate these findings, describing transitions into states of Bare Existence or contentless consciousness where the distinction between "I" and "it" collapses. Ultimately, the paper argues that meditation is both a deconstructive and existential procedure that reveals the contingency of the self-model while deepening contact with present-constrained existence. The Architecture of Resonant Coherence (ARC) proposes that self-organizing living systems are constituted by the dynamic coupling of three irreducible informational domains: the Energetic (bioelectric and physiological regulation), the Semantic (symbolic, narrative, and archetypal meaning-making), and the Participatory (relational, social, and collective synchronization). It is not yet clear which response behavior requires self-regulatory effort in the moral dilemma task. Previous research has proposed that utilitarian responses require cognitive control, but subsequent studies have found inconsistencies with the empirical predictions of that hypothesis. In this paper we treat participants’ sensitivity to utilitarian gradients as a measure of performance. We confronted participants (N = 82) with a set of five dilemmas evoking a gradient of mean utilitarian responses in a 4-point scale and collected data on (...) heart rate variability and on utilitarian responses. We found positive correlations between tonic and phasic HRV and sensitivity to the utilitarian gradient in the high tonic group, but not in the low tonic group. Moreover, the low tonic group misplaced a scenario with a selfish incentive at the high end of the gradient. Results suggest that performance is represented by sensitivity correlated with HRV and accompanied with a reasonable placement of individual scenarios within the gradient. (shrink)

This paper presents the Collective and Structural Extension of the Triadic Balance Framework (TBF): the applied framework that addresses what individual balance work alone cannot reach. Where TBF's individual extension answers what the iSPAA → sSPAA transition looks like for one person, this paper answers the structural question: what systemic conditions generate and maintain iSPAA at the population level, and what does collective movement toward balance require? -/- Five core contributions are developed: (1) The Four Leverage Points hierarchy — establishing (...) why individual practice is the third intervention target, not the first. Leverage Point 1 is physiological safety (material conditions, threat reduction, basic needs); Leverage Point 2 is relational and structural co-regulation; Leverage Point 3 is individual C-S-L-R practice; Leverage Point 4 is systemic and institutional reform. Demanding individual Courage practice from people at Leverage Point 1 constitutes structural violence. This paper proposes a developmental model reconceptualizing ego not as an obstacle to spiritual growth but as the essential instrument through which consciousness awakens. Drawing on seven years of cross-cultural field research across twenty-three countries, the author introduces the Twelve Houses of Ego, a developmental map spanning three Halls (Illusion, Awakening, Wisdom) that traces consciousness from primal separation toward expanded unity. The framework synthesizes Three Aspects of Separation (Lack, Limitation, Comparison), distinguishes Ego Mind from Heart Mind as dual neurobiological operating (...) systems, and operationalizes Ego Density as a novel psychophysiological variable measurable through heart rate variability, interoceptive accuracy, and cardiac coherence. This work utilizes wearable devices for real-time stress detection and investigates the effectiveness of meditation audio in reducing stress levels after academic exposure. Physiological data, including Interbeat Interval (IBI)-derived Heart Rate Variability (HRV), Blood Volume Pulse(BVP), and electrodermal activity (EDA), are collected during the Montreal Imaging Stress Task (MIST). The stress classification methodology employs an integrated approach using Genetic Algorithm and Mutual Information to reduce feature redundancy. It further uses Bayesian optimization to fine-tune machine learning hyperparameters. The results indicate that (...) the combination of EDA, BVP, and HRV achieves the highest classification accuracy of 98.28% and 97.02% using the Gradient Boosting (GB) algorithm for 2-level and 3-level stress classification. In contrast, EDA and HRV alone achieve a comparable accuracy of 97.07% and 95.23% for 2-level and 3-level stress classification, respectively. Furthermore, the SHAP Explainable AI (XAI) analysis confirms that HRV and EDA are the most significant features for stress classification. The study also finds evidence that listening to meditation audio reduces stress levels. These findings highlight the potential of wearable technology combined with machine learning for real-time stress monitoring and management in academic environments. (shrink)

We introduce Quantum Holographic Consciousness Theory (QHCT), a framework that places interference, rather than collapse or causal power, at the center of conscious experience. In this view, the universe behaves like a vibrating holographic screen, carrying patterns that exist prior to observation. Consciousness does not inject energy into these patterns, but acts as a frequency-sensitive reader that selects and stabilizes them into lived experience. We tested this idea at two scales. Cosmologically, Planck 2018 data reveal node-like regularities and phase linearity, (...) signatures of holographic interference. Physiologically, heart-rate variability records display few-mode concentration, selective phase entrainment with respiration, and low-dimensional reconstructions. These findings jointly suggest that both cosmic background radiation and human physiology can be interpreted as mode-limited interference structures. QHCT thus offers a falsifiable cross-domain framework, tested on both cosmological and physiological data, that bridges physics, neuroscience, and philosophy of mind in a coherent account of consciousness.
