The Orange County Riptide Baseball Internship Program is designed for students and recent graduates interested in a career in sports entertainment. Baseball Internships are unpaid but students can earn college credit for their time working for the OC Riptide. Academic credit is not guaranteed, and accepted interns need to verify/check with their respective academic departments to ensure a specific internship opportunity meets academic credit requirements.

Food & Beverage Operations Intern

JUMP START YOUR CAREER AS A RESTAURANT OR NIGHTCLUB MANAGER WITH THE RIPTIDE

The Orange County Riptide, a collegiate wood bat summer baseball team playing games at the Great Park in Irvine, California, seeks interns with a strong desire to learn and understand food and beverage operations in the sports and entertainment field.

Ideal candidates will be working towards a degree in restaurant and food & beverage services management. Candidates with a desire to learn and master techniques and skills to run and manage restaurants, bars, nightclubs, golf course clubhouse hospitality or stadium concessions are strongly encouraged to apply.

Please Note: This un-paid internship position will require your attendance at home games in Irvine, Calif. Qualified candidates will need to ensure they have housing available from June through early August 2026.

Summer interns attending college outside of the Orange County, Calif. area must make their own living arrangements for the summer. The OC Riptide cannot provide housing for out-of-area interns.

In lieu of compensation, academic credit is available for this internship. Academic credit is not guaranteed and is dependent upon your school’s requirements and terms. Check with your school’s Internship Coordinator BEFORE accepting the hiring offer to determine if this position satisfies the criteria for receiving academic credit.

Interns chosen for this position will need strong food and beverage or hospitality knowledge either through course work or real-world work experience. Customer service or operations experience preferred along with strong organizational and time management skills. The Orange County Riptide is looking for qualified food & beverage interns to assist in the smooth functioning of concessions at each home baseball game.

Learning Objectives:

  • Food & Beverage Operations Interns will learn inventory management and rotation, product ordering, receiving deliveries, month end financials, etc.
  • Interns will learn guest services, point of sale systems, and food and beverage safety protocols.
  • Interns will learn to work within a team atmosphere, to problem solve and to learn proper implementation of team goals and functions.
  • By the end of the internship, students should have gained exceptional knowledge in all aspects of food & beverage operations for a sports team.

Because this position requires attendance at home games, (approximately 25+ games spanning from June through early August) applicants are expected to work approximately five (5) hours per game. This includes pre-game, in-game and post-game duties of setting up and breaking down operations and performing in-game functions to ensure a smooth game experience.

Duties for the food & Beverage Operations Interns will consist of, but not be limited to:

Responsibilities

  • Reports directly to the Assistant General Manager
  • Concessions & Food Operations: Oversee the food and beverage setup in the arena concourse, assisting with concession stand preparation, staff coordination, and daily inventory management.
  • Game Day Staff Supervision: Assist in the supervision and training of game day concessions staff, ensuring top-notch customer service and smooth operations.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain and report on inventory for concessions and POS carts, prepare daily, monthly, and seasonal inventory summaries, and assist with stocking and re-stocking as needed.
  • Vendor Communication: Coordinate with food and beverage vendors to ensure timely order placement and delivery for game day readiness.
  • Stadium & Concessions Preparation: Aid in stadium setup for game days, including re-stocking, order pickups/drop-offs, and ensuring game day essentials are ready for smooth operations.
  • Guest Relations: Handle guest inquiries and support positive fan experiences.
  • Health & Safety Compliance: Adhere to all health, safety, and fire codes, maintaining a clean and safe environment.
  • Game Day Responsibilities: Support the Operations Manager with arena preparation, assist concessions staff with POS transactions, and handle game day shutdown processes.

Required Skills

  • Good people skills to effectively interact with fans
  • Residing or spending the summer in Orange County, Calif. From June – early August 2026.
  • Provide excellent customer service to all existing and potential fans.
  • Ability to recognize and solve small problems before turning into major issues
  • Available evenings, weekends and possibly holidays based on game day schedule.

(Because staff members may come in contact with alcoholic beverages in concession stands, applicants aged 21 or older a plus but not required. Those interns selected who are or will be aged 21 by June 2026, will take priority as they will learn all aspects of this internship.

GRAPHIC ARTIST

  • Graphic Artists will learn to design and manipulate images and graphics for use in digital media.
  • Graphic Artists will learn to create player profile images to appear on video jumbotron within the stadium.
  • Graphic Artists will learn to create stunning visuals to be shared digitally on social media channels, the OC Riptide website and on the stadium video board.
  • By the end of the internship, students should have gained exceptional knowledge in creating and distributing graphics and images in a sports entertainment environment. Should student photographers like to pursue career advancement in sports, additional networking within the Southern California sports entertainment industry is available.

Because this position requires attendance at home games, (23 games spanning from June through early August) applicants are expected to work approximately five (5) hours per game. This includes pre-game, in-game and post-game editing and creating player profile graphics and other imagery used in digital media. Interns may use graphics created during this internship for their professional portfolio.

Duties for the Graphic Artist will consist of, but are not limited to:

Responsibilities

  • Reports directly to the General Manager
  • Work in conjunction with Sports Journalism and Digital Media interns to distribute graphics on the website and social media channels
  • Proficiency in Illustrator, Photo Shop, Lightroom or compared software program
  • Self-motivated, detail oriented, very organized
  • Succeed in a team environment
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to create and edit graphics in-game, real time.
  • Ability to be live, on-site during the season of play (June 2024 – July 2024)
  • Computer for designing and editing.

Preferred Skills

  • An online, reviewable portfolio of past work as it is related to this position.
  • Prior experience in sports-related graphic design.
  • Working knowledge of the college athletics sector. Knowledge of baseball is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of current social media trends.

Baseball Stadium Organist

BECOME THE STADIUM ORGANIST FOR THE ORANGE COUNTY RIPTIDE BASEBALL CLUB

The Orange County Riptide, a collegiate wood bat summer baseball team playing games at the Great Park in Irvine, California, seeks an organist with strong knowledge and understanding of music who is also a skilled keyboardist.

Please Note: This un-paid internship position will require your attendance at home games in Irvine, Calif. This is not a position that can be performed remotely.

If you are attending college outside of the Orange County, Calif. area, you must make your own living arrangements for the summer. The OC Riptide cannot provide housing for out-of-the-area interns.

In lieu of compensation, academic credit is available for this internship. Academic credit is not guaranteed and is a dependent upon your school’s requirements and terms. Check with your school’s Internship Coordinator BEFORE accepting the hiring offer to determine if this position satisfies the criteria for receiving academic credit.

The keyboardist chosen for this position will need a strong musical background, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, take direction easily and quickly, willingness to work nights and weekends and have a passion for music and the sport of college baseball.

Learning Objectives:

  • Stadium Organist will learn to keep baseball fans entertained with music during breaks along with pre-game and post-game entertainment.
  • Organist will learn optimal times to play music and more importantly when playing music is inappropriate.
  • Organist will develop proficiency in playing traditional songs heard in baseball stadiums on a frequent basis
  • By the end of the summer, the organist should have gained exceptional knowledge in keeping fans entertained at a sporting event and providing a balanced fan atmosphere and experience. Should this student pursue career advancement in sports, additional networking within the Southern California sports entertainment industry is available.

Because this position requires attendance at home games, (25+ games spanning from June through early August) applicants are expected to work four (4) to five (5) hours per game. This includes pre-game, in-game and post-game playing of music and keeping fans entertained.

Ideal candidates will have memorized traditional baseball songs like “Take Me Out to the Ball Game”, the “Tarantella”, the “Star-Spangled Banner” and the “Charge” fanfare among other typical baseball game favorites. The ability to take popular and modern-day music and convert it to organ music is a bonus.

Duties for the Baseball Stadium Organist will consist of, but not be limited to:

Responsibilities

  • Reports directly to the General Manager
  • Provide portable keyboard to play from press box of the OC Great Park Stadium
  • Keyboard has an organ function to sound like a traditional baseball stadium organ
  • Attend and work 25+ home games
  • Entertain fans with songs during breaks and between innings
  • Use creativity and timeliness to create a fun and active inclusive environment for fans
  • Operate music during appropriate times using family appropriate music
  • Refrain from playing music over pitches/any ball in-play
  • Be at the stadium at least 45 minutes prior to first pitch to entertain fans with organ music
  • Set-up/take down of keyboard equipment

Preferred Skills

  • Strong knowledge of music
  • Able to read music
  • Strong knowledge of songs from memory that can be played on a frequent basis and on-demand.

PHOTOGRAPHER

If you are attending college outside of the Orange County, Calif. area, you must make your own living arrangements for the summer. The OC Riptide cannot provide housing for out-of-the-area interns.

In lieu of compensation, academic credit is available for this internship. Academic credit is not guaranteed and is a dependent upon your school’s requirements and terms. Interns chosen for this position will need strong critical thinking skills, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, take direction easily and quickly, willingness to work nights and weekends and have a passion for the sport of college baseball.

Learning Objectives:

  • Team photographers will learn to capture images in a wide variety of locations, both home games and on the road.
  • Interns will learn to capture images in different lighting situations based on day or night games and shooting locations at different venues.
  • Interns will learn and perfect shooting images of players in fast motion and when still in dugout or on base paths. Will also learn how to shoot for distance but also close, portrait for media usage, etc.
  • By the end of the internship, students should have gained exceptional knowledge in capturing images in a sports entertainment environment. Should student photographers like to pursue career advancement in sports, additional networking within the Southern California sports entertainment industry is available.

Because this position requires attendance at home games, (20+ games spanning from June through early August) applicants are expected to work approximately five (5) hours per game. This includes pre-game, in-game and post-game capturing of photos and approximately an hour of photo editing, archiving images, uploading of images, etc. The OC Riptide will also play a number of games (still to be announced) on the road. Photographers are expected to attend and capture photos for approximately four to five road games. Team transportation and any expenses, i.e meals, etc. will be provided by the organization.

The Orange County Riptide is looking for qualified photographers to capture images of games, players, coaches along with overall stadium fan experiences. Photos will be edited and used for publication and marketing. All images will be the property of the Orange County Riptide. Interns may use images captured during this internship for their professional portfolio.

Ideal candidates will have their own photography equipment and experience in sports photography.

Duties for the Team Photographer will consist of, but are not limited to:

Responsibilities

  • Reports directly to the General Manager
  • Work in conjunction with Journalism and Marketing interns to distribute photos
  • Capture photos of players, coaches, staff, fans at home games
  • Shoot from appropriate locations that are safe yet provide unique perspective during games
  • Edit images post-game to be used in post-game reports and social media releases
  • Understand the basics of baseball to capture timely and moving images
  • Have above average knowledge of sports photography and fast motion photography
  • Provide your own camera, memory cards and editing software
  • Capture images using lenses and camera equipment that can shoot in low light as many games are played at night, under artificial lighting.
  • Attend all home games and a mix of road games. (Travel expenses for road games provided by team.)

Preferred Skills

  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, GIMP, PaintShop Pro or other image editing software
  • Photojournalism or Photography major

Audio Entertainment Production Internship / Stadium DJ

KEEPING THE FANS ENGAGED & ENTERTAINED

The Orange County Riptide, a collegiate wood bat summer baseball team playing games at the Great Park in Irvine, California, seeks interns for our Audio Entertainment Production Internship / Stadium DJ position.

Stadium DJ will have a passion for music and a deep understanding of various genres. Stadium Disc Jockey will be responsible for creating and maintaining a lively and engaging atmosphere at OC Riptide games. Curating playlists for home and visitor batting practice, ambient music for when fans enter the stadium, music between innings and between pitches along with walk-up music for Riptide players are just a few of the tasks and duties expected.

  • Stadium DJ interns will learn appropriate times to play certain types of music depending on the game flow and state of the game.
  • Stadium Disc Jockey interns will learn to ensure that there is no “dead air” during the course of a game and to work closely with the live game producer when to play music and sound effects.
  • By the end of the summer, the Stadium DJ should have gained exceptional knowledge in keeping fans entertained at a sporting event and providing an engaging and exciting atmosphere and experience. Should interns pursue career advancement in sports, additional networking within the Southern California sports entertainment industry is available.

Because this position requires attendance at home games, (25+ games spanning from June through early August) applicants are expected to work four (4) to five (5) hours per game. This includes pre-game, in-game and post-game fan engagement.

Duties for the Stadium Disc Jockey will consist of, but not be limited to:

Responsibilities

  • Reports directly to the Director of Game Presentation & Production
  • Provide wide range of playlists and music mixes depending on the setting and choose music to suit your audience’s taste and the venue’s music policy.
  • Feed off the crowd and get the crowd involved with the activities and events of the venue for entertainment value.
  • Have knowledge of music trends.
  • Ensure a smooth transition between songs and maintain a consistent flow of music
  • Adhere to all relevant laws and regulations regarding music licensing and copyright
  • Collaborate with performers, managers, contractors, and stadium staff to ensure appropriate sound equipment needs and satisfactory audio levels are met and maintained.
  • Lead the sound check with wireless microphone emcee, anthem performers, PA announcer, etc.

      LEARN ALL ASPECTS OF VENUE MANAGEMENT & GAME DAY OPERATIONS

      Interns chosen for this position will need strong critical thinking skills, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, take direction easily and quickly, willingness to work nights and weekends and have a passion for the sport of college baseball. The Orange County Riptide is looking for qualified game day operations interns to assist in the smooth functioning of each home baseball game.

      Ideal candidates will bring a positive attitude and willingness to go above and beyond to ensure the player and fan experience at each game is flawless. You’ll gain hands-on experience working on challenging, meaningful projects with guidance from a mentor and other members of our team. Ideally, candidates will be working towards a degree in sports management, business administration, communications, marketing, management, finance or event management.

      Duties for the Baseball Game Day Operations Intern will consist of, but not be limited to:

      Responsibilities

      • Reports directly to the Assistant General Manager
      • Manage and help staff merchandising, ticketing and concessions stands
      • Manage gate entry and ticket sales for all home games
      • Assist in planning and preparing for each home game
      • Attend all home games

Home games are broadcast on the OC Riptide YouTube channel.  Ideally, candidates will be working towards a degree in sports management, communications, marketing, management, broadcasting or journalism.

Should student videographers like to pursue career advancement in sports, additional networking within the Southern California sports entertainment industry is available.

      Because this position requires attendance at home games, (20+ games spanning from June through early August) applicants are expected to work approximately five (5) hours per game. This includes pre-game, in-game and post-game capturing of videos and approximately an hour of video editing, archiving videos, uploading of videos, editing raw video into finished products, etc. The OC Riptide will also play several games (still to be announced) on the road. Videographers are expected to attend and capture videos for approximately four to five road games. Team transportation and any expenses, i.e. meals, etc. will be provided by the organization.

      Position Summary: Videography interns report to the General Manager and are responsible for promoting the organization through owned assets and earned media. The position will include contributions to the Riptide’s video content strategy in addition to supporting partnerships and game day activation. Ideal candidates will have a strong understanding of baseball, a desire to communicate with fans and the ability to produce creative and innovative content that drives engagement with the brand.

      Working in conjunction as a staff with management of:

      • Shooting and editing OC Riptide video content including but not limited to games, marketing events and Great Park Stadium events

This includes pre-game, in-game and post-game analysis of data, charting, acting as the official scorer for assigned games, providing broadcast team with useful data and other duties assigned by the Director of Baseball Operations and head coach. Candidates chosen for this position will work within a team atmosphere with two (2) to three (3) others. Road game assignments will be divided equally within the department staff. Any lodging and per diem costs while on road game assignments will be provided by the team.

        Ideal candidates will have knowledge of how to keep score of a baseball game, make quick judgements on the fly during a game, knowledge of the PointStreak scoring system and an understanding of how to take statistical data and translate it to meaningful information to be used by coaches and the Director of Baseball Operations.

        Duties for the Analytics & Official Scorer will consist of, but not be limited to:

        Responsibilities

        • Reports directly to the Head Coach & Director of Baseball Operations
        • Officially score home games
        • Gather baseball statistics and provide analysis
        • Compile advanced statistical methods and reports
        • Design and test predictive models
        • Interpret data to assist team with player decisions

        Raise the brand awareness of the OC Riptide within the Orange county area and beyond

        The Orange County Riptide, a collegiate wood bat summer baseball team playing games at the Great Park in Irvine, California, seeks interns with strong knowledge and understanding of marketing, public relations and increasing awareness of a sports team.

        Interns will propose potential campaigns and execute them to raise awareness of the OC Riptide within the Orange County community. Engagement with local community groups such as organizing little league nights, school groups, senior groups, service clubs, veterans groups, etc. Some of these initiative projects and proposals may require inperson visits to meeting and to make presentations

        You should be prepared to work in a fast-paced, supportive team environment and will finish the internship having gained broad experience in various aspects of marketing and community relations and engagement.

        Interns chosen for this position will need strong critical thinking skills, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, take direction easily and quickly and have a passion for the sport of college baseball.

        Please Note: This un-paid internship position does not require you to be in California to perform tasks and duties up until the start of the summer season.         • Cultivate and lead the Riptide’s interaction with community organizations, businesses and individuals to ensure the implementation and administration of the teams mission
        • Manage current school and community partnerships and programs, and develop new outreach opportunities
        • Oversee all requests for Riptide player, Coaches and Omaha the Bat Dog appearances and other requests from individuals, events and organizations
        • Work across multiple departments for event planning, game night needs and special fundraising initiatives
        • Be the point person for groups on game days helping to organize and coordinate their evening at the ballpark is as smooth as possible.
        • Work with OC Riptide coaching staff to coordinate and help run youth coaching clinics and day camps
        • Coordinate execution of Riptide Kids Club initiatives.
        • Develop and present new ideas to increase awareness and attendance

        Plan and execute Theme Nights and Game Day Events from A – Z

        Interns will be the point of contact to coordinate and facilitate the smooth operation of specific game day theme nights and operations. This includes the responsibility of taking the entire game day experience from planning to execution for roughly 20+ games.

        • Work closely with the Assistant General Manager to pre-plan game day events including (but not limited to) coordinating with corporate partners, mid-inning games planning and execution, theme night planning and execution, pre-game entertainment, groups coordination, etc.
        • Responsible for coordinating set up with the staff at all home game days to ensure the smooth functioning of the event / fan experience.
        • Responsible for fan engagement at every event.
        • Execute all pre and post game activations as it relates to the fan experience.
        • Facilitate and monitor the mid-inning promotions to run smoothly.
        • Maintain a visible presence throughout the game day event for any guest inquiries, comments, or concerns.
        • Co-write the game day script with the Director of Game Presentation & Production
