Shock Mount: A Lyrical Rockstar Romance (ChiTown Love Stories Book 1) Kindle Edition
I'm a walking disaster. He's a chart-topping rockstar. What could possibly go wrong?
I'm Meg Hannah, and I trip over flat surfaces, spill coffee on strangers, and embarrass myself professionally. So, when Ian Reilly—the gorgeous, younger rockstar who could have anyone—decides I'm his next great love song, I know it's temporary. I'm always the one before the one.
Ian is relentless, kind, and makes me believe in fairy tales again. Which would be perfect... if my messy past and the tabloids didn't threaten to destroy us. And then Jake shows up—my friend with the swoony smile and floppy hair who I thought I was over—just as Ian starts to look like forever.
Because of course he does.
Two complicated rockstars. One clumsy girl who always picks wrong. But maybe this time, someone will catch me when I fall.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Hilarious, swoon-worthy, and full of heart! The perfect mix of laugh-out-loud moments and toe-curling romance."
A rockstar romcom love triangle (no crossover) where everyone gets their happily ever after.

About the author

Kelly Kay writes romantic comedies full of banter, big feelings, and the kind of found family chaos that makes you laugh and cry, sometimes in the same chapter. She blends heat, humor, and heart in stories set everywhere from vineyards in Sonoma to the rooftops of Paris. 3. Witty, sexy, and always about connection, Kelly Kay romances are where chaos meets chemistry.
Kelly lives in Chicago (Go Cubs!), with her roots in Pennsylvania (Sorry Phillies, I married a Cubs-loving man), with her writer husband, a musically gifted teen, and a dog who thinks she’s in charge. She’s probably holding a glass of wine or a cup of coffee right now, and either way, she’s plotting her next messy, magical love story.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 10, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseTo keep up with our heroine Meg.
I can't remember reading a book that that gives a voice to most of Meg's tribe. This unique story almost reads like a screenplay. I was visualising the characters and scenes, especially the ones with Ian, the adorable swoon-worthy and very hot rock star. At the end of book one, Meg has screwed up. On to book two.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 13, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI ran out of book. How did I run out of book? I mean it couldn’t have been from rarely putting it down. I read it in bed, I read it in the grocery store.
I did NOT read it in the bathroom.
I have standards.
Sometimes.
Okay, I think I’ve been in Meg’s head too long. It’s a wild place to be. She’s funny and dorky and klutzy. She has a big heart but can’t find her way out of a paper bag. I loved her character. She is who she is and that’s the one constant.
The guys in her life, that’s another story. I can’t wait until the next book to find out about it.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 19, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis book roped me in from the beginning. The character and story building is awesome. The story is light, fun, funny and sexy. I am going straight to book two!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 20, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis book has a CLIFFHANGER. Somehow I missed that (I don't usually buy cliffhangers). But since that is my own fault (it's clearly labelled as part 1 of a duet) I'm going to rate this book on its own merit. I love a rockstar romance, but this one, not so much. It starts off with Meg and Scott as a couple, which was interesting because of the conflict, but quickly falls apart (helped along by the incidental appearance of Ian). The "reverse age gap" is only 8 years and at their ages (she's 37 and he's 29), I don't really consider that a gap. Besides, they both acted like they were 19, especially Meg (who is a hot mess but apparently an irresistible one), the phone switch thing, and the entire situation at the 'end' of the book. At one point Meg shares that she's raised 65 million in funding for documentaries, but not once does she appear to do a stitch of actual work, which is apparently (at the moment) a documentary about kids which are near and dear to her heart (yet not once do we see her with a child). It's a rather long book, but it drags on a bit because a lot of it is s-e-x. Both characters are 'smitten' yet they haven't done anything that brings depth into their relationship. The writing mechanics were poor (in particular the paragraph breaks around dialogue, so I often did not know who was speaking) which I could have overlooked if I'd felt more than lust between the characters. There are also random chapters from other (supporting) characters' point of view. I would have liked to see more depth to Ian and a more grown-up romance.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 11, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI love to learn and I consider learning an adventure. I also love a vacation . Reading is a vacation from current reality. This book was an excellent learning experience about California's wine Country and the wine industry and it was an excellent vacation away from the status quo. I am lucky as I am retired and live in my vacation home ; however, a new trip is always very welcome.

MandaReviewed in Australia on August 20, 20222.0 out of 5 stars way too much
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseIt’s frustrating because the story line is good and the feelings are so real, but then there is so much drivel about history and her thoughts in her head that really only 1/3 of needs to be there. Also doesn’t finish in one book. And then there is the main character who for being so smart is so freakin dumb that she has the hots for so many guys but “friendzones” them and allows them to take photos of her boobs to masturbate when they are married!

ChristineReviewed in the Netherlands on June 15, 20245.0 out of 5 stars Instant Attraction!
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWow, another wonderful book by Ms Kay, I just love them all. And this one takes me back to my youthful days, with an instant attraction, marvelicious hurricane affair, even with no future ahead (and the age gap was not that big). Laughing throughout the book, feeling great, dancing around the room… and then the ending…. As warned it leaves me with a sort of a cliffhanger (I already read the Carriage House Chronicles), a compelling urge to find and read Crossfade, and a bit of sad.
Highly recommended.
