Microsoft Visual InterDev is an integrated development environment from Microsoft Corporation designed for building data-driven web applications on Windows using classic Active Server Pages (ASP). Introduced in the late 1990s as part of the Visual Studio family, its final version (Visual InterDev 6.0) offered visual HTML/DHTML editing, client- and server-side scripting in VBScript and JScript, and integration with COM/ActiveX components. It provided robust data features, including ADO-based connectivity, visual data designers, data-bound controls, and wizards for connecting to Microsoft SQL Server and other OLE DB sources. The environment included site management and deployment tools (such as support for FrontPage Server Extensions and FTP), integrated script debugging with IIS and Internet Explorer, and team development integration with Microsoft Visual SourceSafe. Although later discontinued and superseded by ASP.NET and the web development tools in subsequent versions of Visual Studio, Visual InterDev was a foundational tool for early enterprise web development on the Windows platform.
