Hello wonderful people inside of the internet, and welcome to the end of another week on planet earth. This week has been characterised by some digital spring cleaning as i appear once again to have ended up with the same files stored in multiple locations with weird and unhelpful names—how does that keep happening?

So i’ve been consolidating files into a single place, simplifying my directory hierarchy, and adding anything that seems interesting and shareable to the blog archive. There is more to come, and i apologise again if that causes any issues for your rss software of choice.

I also had a look through my emacs configuration and have been updating some package configurations. Like always, my preference is for consistence and the minimum of moving parts, so if it’s possible to add something that works well regardless of what i’m doing, that’s a great step. I plan to write some little posts talking about some of the packages i like in the future.

We watched two films this week: the color of pomegranates and zootopia 2. I don’t regret watching either of them, but equally neither of them were the most spectacular thing i’ve ever watched. Zootopia 2 was a mediocre sequel, but the color of pomegranates was really unique. Unfortunately that uniqueness led to a confusing watching experience rather than enlightenment.

Spotify wrapped came out this week, which means i’ve seen a lot of people’s screenshots from there. It’s interesting that this time of year suddenly makes people who are usually quite critical of giant companies and their advertising practices really enthusiastic to go around and ask everyone else what their listening age is. Although i don’t use spotify, i have been recording every song i listen to for the last year in a json file, so it might be interesting to do some analysis and get in on the fun.

As a starting spoiler, the album i’ve been listening to on repeat this week is 海龟先生 by 海龟先生. If you happen to like chinese slightly ska music, it’s worth a listen. If you don’t, it’s also worth a listen.

This week i started reconsidering my rss strategy, after once again feeling overwhelmed by the amount of unread posts in my inbox. I’m trying out some alternative software, and will probably write something about that in the near future. Stay tuned!

That brings us to now, already fairly deep into december, and very little in the way of christmas spirit in sight. True, there are decorations up in some shops, and christmas bells in the background music of adverts, but it’s clear that this is not such an embedded part of the culture in china as it is in britain. I’ve started playing christmas music, so i hope to change that for myself at least.

Until next time, stay wonderful
