    And here I thought the pitch for AI was all about democratizing knowledge. Womp womp.

    I sourced a new desktop to install Linux and move my plex server once I get some new drives to put them in the proper format. I’ll be giving it to Microsoft from both ends ;)

    Have you handled any new polymer bills as of late? Do you recall a faint wisp of sugar shacks and maple sugar candy?

    veeesix OP ,

    It should be an option to request the teller give a little maple spritz upon withdrawal at the bank.

    Imagine putting a pause on society during the 90s and 00s. Reintegrating into society now without that cultural conditioning would probably be weird.

    veeesix ,
    @veeesix@lemmy.ca avatar

    Damn, that’s wild.

    That’s well and good, but imagine keeping your software backwards compatible with an ancient 14 billion year old file standard.

    Local man would be angrier about Liberal's undemocratic floor-crossing scheme if it wasn't so funny to imagine Poilievre's face ( www.thebeaverton.com )

    The voters chose a minority government and expected the parties to work together, and I don’t think it’s right for Carney and his team to try to undermine that,” said Kofman. “But then I think of Poilievre’s stupid little face being told about one floor crossing after another and I giggle for about 10 minutes.”...

    @veeesix@lemmy.ca avatar

    Yeah this is the only part of the reaction that I’m not aligned with.

    As you’ve mentioned the MP is elected as your representative, regardless of party, but a lot of people tend to vote with the understanding that their representative will tow the party line.

    Agreed

    Oh great, and right before the Christmas break. I’m not gonna hear the end of this at the family get together 😫

    Border Patrol Agent Recorded Raid with Meta’s Ray-Ban Smart Glasses ( www.404media.co )

    On a recent immigration raid, a Border Patrol agent wore a pair of Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses, with the privacy light clearly on signaling he was recording the encounter, which agents are not permitted to do, according to photos and videos of the incident shared with 404 Media....

    Infosys co-founder once again calls for longer than 70-hour weeks - and no, he's not joking ( www.techradar.com )

    Despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy has once again called for longer working weeks has returned, this time with an emphasis on schedules like the 996-pattern used in parts of China....

    So 6 days of 12-hour shifts? Sounds like a pretty novel way to tank your economy because no one’ll have the time to spend money or raise a family.

    Polish Ministry of Digital Affairs confirms that legislative work on mandating RSS channels' maintenance on government bodies is underway ( kontrabanda.net )

    Poland’s Ministry of Digital Affairs is working on legislation that could require all government bodies to provide RSS or Atom channels on their websites. If adopted, the regulation would place Poland among the first EU countries to introduce such a legal mandate.

    So basically government fediverse instances.

    veeesix ,
    @veeesix@lemmy.ca avatar

    I think I’m mixing the two because there are services that kind of turn Mastodon into an RSS reader.

    That’s true that it is somewhat more robust than requiring a federated account, but I think that comes at the cost of discoverability which may or may not be something you might want to broadcast on a social network anyway 🤷‍♂️

    Most of the items in the Vatican collection were sent to Rome by Catholic missionaries for a 1925 exhibition in the Vatican gardens. The Vatican insists the items were “gifts” to Pope Pius XI, who wanted to celebrate the church’s global reach, its missionaries and the lives of the Indigenous peoples they evangelized.

    But historians, Indigenous groups and experts have long questioned whether the items could really have been offered freely, given the power imbalances at play in Catholic missions at the time.

    The rest of the article is an interesting read.

    I think the fediverse needs Android like hardware packaging

    We need a system like a RockChip processor based single board computer, paired with a trusted protection module, and all fediverse services prepackaged for minimal user input required to self host any fediverse services. All updates should be safely installed over the air via the TPM chip based encryption just like with Graphene...

    It’s already hard enough to get people to donate even $20 towards fediverse projects like Lemmy or Mastodon.

    Cool? But by your own words this is literally meaningless.

    I think a lot more people here are more sympathetic for Albertans than we’re given credit for. We all watched the run-up to the Battle River-Crowfoot federal by-election, and can clearly see there are lots of people that care for their neighbours and are working hard to break the mould.

    He instructed him to withdraw money from his accounts, telling him a courier would then pick up the money from his apartment and it would be kept safe until the investigation wrapped up.

    The scammer also said it was imperative Ray not tell anyone, as it could jeopardize the investigation.

    “They said, ‘We want to make sure that you don't lose your life savings,’” said Ray. “So I went along with it.”

    Under questioning, however, one of Proven’s employees admitted that he had been able to duplicate McNally’s technique, leading to the question from McNally’s lawyer: “When you did it yourself, did it occur to you for one moment that maybe the best thing to do, instead of file a lawsuit, was to fix the lock?”
