When the doors to the newly-renovated JDUC opened on Oct. 17, alumni, students, parents, community members, and University leaders—including Principal Patrick Deane, Chancellor Shelagh Rogers, and Rector Niki Boytchuk-Hale—gathered to celebrate the building’s long-awaited reopening. At the centre of the event was Last Call, a student band whose warm, jazzy covers set an easy tone for the afternoon and softened the space’s glossiness.

Despite technical difficulties, six bands still impressed audiences at MUSE’s Mini Desk.On Sept. 23, MUSE Magazine returned to The Mansion for the fall ’25 edition of its Mini Desk series, bringing together six student and local bands in an intimate show. Inspired by National Public Radio (NPR)’s Tiny Desk, the event has become a staple in Queen’s music scene. This year, musical acts Lee Sadja, Xavier + Noah, Twotime, RevZed, LHRK, and Last Call took to the stage, giving audiences a front-row view of emerging Kingston talent.

Third times the charm, right?Queen’s students and Kingston locals were on their feet as the Astros, Blunt Force Llama, Last Call, and RevZed took the stage at Ale House this Thursday, March 27. Playing with a variety of genres, each band brought something fun and different to the stage. Alepalooza is back swinging for round three.Four local bands are set to hit the Ale House stage on March 27, in the third iteration of Alepalooza, which started in 2023. This year, the event will see the talents of The Astros, Blunt Force Llama, RevZed, and Last Call showcased at the venue, whose 650 person capacity is a step up for some of these student bands. Groups like Blunt Force Llama have graced the Alepalooza stage before, while newcomers Last Call secured their opening slot through their victory at the Queen’s Music Club (QMC) Battle of the Bands in October. If you’ve ever wanted to see five student bands battle it out for the crown, now’s your chance.Queen’s Music Club (QMC) is set to host their second annual Battle of the Bands on Oct. 25 at The Mansion. The stacked bill will feature performances from Clark Hall Pub battle victors The Clay Pigeons, Blunt Force Llama who won the contest last year, and newcomers Jinx, Last Call, and Purple Dye.With a randomly picked performance order, and results to be decided by audience vote, it’s a night that celebrates student talent. Whoever is crowned champion will earn a coveted spot on the Ale-palooza lineup in February, alongside booked bands The Astros and RevZed.
