Hi my name is Joseph Powell-Main. I am a professional freelance ballet dancer, choreographer, motivational speaker and advocate for accessibility and inclusion. I use a wheelchair and crutches to perform due to a physical impairment that affects my left leg. My professional engagements include Ballet Cymru and in 2021 becoming the first wheelchair and crutch using dancer to perform with the Royal Ballet Company. Since then I have gone onto work with The Royal Ballet on numerous projects including as a choreographer and dancer as part of The Festival of New Choreography and also being the first disabled choreographer to be commissioned by The Royal Opera House to create a classical one act dance work Strength in Adversity which featured dancers from National Youth Ballet for The Next Generation Festival 2024. I am due to perform as a Guest Artist in the 2024/25 season with Northern Ballet in a new premier choreographed by Kristen McNally.
