About Mustafa Al Kadhimi
Mustafa Al Kadhimi served as Prime Minister of Iraq from May 2020 to October 2022. His bold leadership helped secure the release of peaceful protestors, win public trust and implement long-awaited electoral reforms while enhancing government accountability.
Born in Baghdad in the mid-1960s, Moustafa Al Kazemi lived in exile for many years due to his opposition to Saddam Hussein’s regime. He spent time in the UK, Sweden, Germany, Iran and the Kurdistan Region, rising to prominence as a journalist, documentarian and advocate for human rights.
Appointed Director of the Iraqi National Intelligence Service in 2016, he led major reforms aimed at depoliticising the agency and improving its efficiency, prioritising intelligence-based counterterrorism strategies.
