Swim History
I am a transplant athlete / Swimmer who is committed to maintaining top physical fitness and health. I train as often as I can and am part of the South African Transplant Sports Association (SATSA). I participate competitively in Master swimming / and open (Not Transplant related) events to keep skills sharp.
I am dedicated to helping promote organ donation to as many people as possible. I have good communication skills, including promoting transplant sports and swimming. I have been swimming since 1994 and obtained my Boland Western Cape schools’ colours since 1995 - 2004, in 2002 I was selected to swim at the very first SA Games.
I also represented Western Province at the South African Senior Nationals in 2004, 2005, and 2006 always in the top ten. In 2006 I was one of 2 Western Province swimmers that was invited to take part in the Fina World Short Course championship in Durban South Africa. After 2006 I took a break, still swimming but just for fun not competitively.
In 2013 I was diagnosed with chronic kidney failure during which I was not allowed to do any sporting activities. In 2016 received a kidney transplant, the kidney was donated by my wife, I then decided to get back in the pool and start again. I qualified for the World Transplant Games and in 2019 and participated in New Castle UK, coming back with 5 medals and 1 world record.
I always push myself to do my best at any competition, my next focus will be the South Africa World Transplant Games in Dresden Germany 2025.
