π Aquatic Invasive Species in Georgia π
π Aquatic Invasive Species in Georgia π
Like many other states, Georgia has experienced Aquatic Nuisance Species (ANS) introductions. Many of these introduced species have affected or have the potential to negatively impact Georgia native species. Though some of these introductions are the result of range expansions or climatic events (e.g., hurricanes, etc.), most are the result of human activities.

π DNR License Plates π»
π DNR License Plates π»
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has eight license plates.Five of these plates (Wildlife 1: Bald Eagle, Wildlife 2: Trout Unlimited, Wildlife 3: Bobwhite Quail Restoration, Wildlife 4: Butterfly, and Marine Habitat) cost $45 each year, as set by current legislation. But that's only $25 more than the standard plate! ($20 is a standard charge applied to all plates.) 80 percent of that $25 fee goes directly to wildlife programs ($19 the first year, $20 with every renewal). Only $5 goes to the State of Georgia General Fund.

π¦ Chronic Wasting Disease π¦
Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) was initially discovered in Georgia in January 2025. CWD is a neurological disease of the brain and central nervous system affecting cervids (deer, elk and moose). It is always fatal and there are no current vaccines or treatments.Georgia DNR has implemented the stateβs CWD Response Plan and established a CWD Management Area (CMA), which includes the county where the positive samples were found and any county touching a 5-mile radius around the location. The current CMA includes Atkinson, Lanier, Berrien and Lowndes counties.
