DC's Automated Safety Camera (ASC) program is designed to create safer roadways for all road users in the District of Columbia. As part of our Vision Zero goal, DDOT’s aim is to eliminate all traffic-related fatalities and severe injuries on District roadways. DC's ASCs enforce violations related to speed, red lights, stop signs, bus lanes, and trucks, and are located throughout the city.

Mayor Muriel Bowser established and championed the Kids Ride Free transit subsidy program to ensure that enrolled District students who are also District residents can get to school and school-related activities for free. The Kids Ride Free (KRF) program allows students to ride for free on Metrobus or Metrorail while traveling within the District.

DDOT's Safety Technicians, our District school crossing guards, protect the safety of students who walk, bike, or take transit to school. School crossing guards help students safely cross hazardous intersections en route to the school building and work in conjunction with school monitors, school security, parking enforcement officers, roadway traffic operations patrols, and police officers.
