20 Minutes.

If you actually focus, you can do a lot with a little bit of time. For instance, you can drive to work, dodge a traffic jam. Finish your oatmeal. Enjoy a few of your favorite songs. Think about what needs to be done this week. Come up with a quick blog idea, publish it, and still clock in on time.

Finish what you start.

There seems to be nothing nagging me at the moment. Often times my most intense writing comes from being bothered by an unsolved problem or query. Unfortunately I’m focused on reading every book in my library. Why? Because there are books that have collected dust for years. Books I’d forgotten I purchased. Books I lost interest  in after a few pages or a single chapter. This being the case I’ve decided to finish them. This will stop me from compulsively buying books based on the direction of my interests, research, and what I might call writing.

Discipline Taxonomy.

Discipline is simply doing something regardless of how you feel, because you said you would do it. Discipline appears to work in stages.

1). Recognizing the impediment of old habits.

2).Breaking or stopping those old habits.

3). Accepting that a change is necessary.

4). Working through new habits at the conscious and physical level.

5). Perpetually managing and regulating behaviors according to desired and expected outcomes or goals.

All of these steps leading to removal and or replacement of counterproductive habits. Discipline doesn’t occur mistakenly. It’s based on decisions and actions that you manage and manipulate intentionally in order to regulate your behavior.

Deciding to be better.

What was the hardest personal goal you’ve set for yourself?

Continuing a rigorous fitness routine. Moving away from home. Living in a big city. Setting ridiculous goals and getting slightly closer to some, while busting my ass and missing the mark on so many other goals have been some of the hardest things. Being an introvert in a committed relationship is also very hard at times, but worth it (I love me-time to an almost unhealthy extent). These are the things that have helped make and continue to make me, whatever and whoever the hell I am.

Setting goals brings specificity to the table.Specificity brings clarity. Clarity brings a sense of calm. Regardless of having all of these things in place, life is still going to be a mess at times. I’ve said it in a previous post, but you have to embrace the mess and chaos at times.

Don’t let the mess overcome the execution though. We still need to actually finish and complete the goal we’ve set. If things are not difficult, perhaps you’ve either become extremely proficient and effective at solving the problem, or you’re not challenging yourself enough.

Do it anyway.

It’s not that we don’t have what it takes. It’s that fact that most people spend too much time agonizing over things that are too trivial, and things that have not happened yet. Don’t freeze yourself out of opportunity because of anxiety. Use that anxiety as a compass. It means you’re on to something.

Do the uncomfortable things, and watch the magic unfold.

Promise you’ll keep going.

What motivates you?

Being where I’m currently at, knowing damn well I want more for myself is what motivates me. Don’t settle. Don’t give up. Maybe you have to take a different approach. This is fine.

Just keep working your way to the next level. This isn’t about getting more stuff. It’s about keeping the promises you made to yourself.

Action Packed.

How do you plan your goals?

By starting first, and planning second. Perhaps it’s counter intuitive. On the other hand, I spend a lot of time on theory. The details of how to, historically data, and pattern recognition of how to accomplish whatever goals I have set out for myself. Personally, it’s better when I have a more obsessive compulsive behavior towards my goals.

I take far more action that way. The theory is great, and it makes you sound intelligent, but it doesn’t yield the best results. When you have a goal, act first, and plan second. When I say that, I mean let the action take you as far as you can go. When you get stuck, that is when you work on theory and studying, to get over the next hurdle. Just be sure you’re doing your best to keep things action packed.

Meaning, constantly taking action towards the end results.

Go for it now.

Nobody is going to give a damn or even remember 50 years from now. This is why you need to ignore opinions, stop overthinking, and never stop working on your ultimate goal. Be one dimensional when it comes to what you work on. This way all of your effort and energy goes into each step along the way. You spend far too much time contemplating what you should do, or what it might be like if you finished, instead of just doing it in the first place.

Just get things done.

Yeah I said it!

Stop being so shortsighted. You have a lot of life left in you. Treat everyday like it’s the last. Be as intensional as possible, and leave no stone unturned. You will not get a better start than where you are right now.

Things could always be worse. Stop complaining, and get to work. You know exactly what you’d go after and try to accomplish if you couldn’t fail, so pretend that failure is a prerequisite to success, because it is. Go after the goal anyway. Even if you suck, you’ll become better at something else, that could end up being your calling.

Quitting is not sexy, and it’s not going to pay the bills. Keep freaking working!

Give up to go up. (Sacrifice that is).

What sacrifices have you made in life?

I’ve sacrificed…

Time with family & time traveling to be with other family.

Friendships & hanging out with friends.

Watching countless hours of television.

Eating whatever I want.

Time.

Money.

Instant gratification for delayed, desired destinations.

It’s a short list, but still some of it is/was worth it, and some of it was hard to do. However I do believe I have done things I needed to do, that would not have gotten done without those sacrifices.

Media is not reality.

The media is designed to distract you from accomplishing anything worthwhile. If you want to do more, stop consuming so much entertainment. I know it seems easier said than done, but a little discipline goes a long way. Imagine how much time we spend (thousands of hours per year) looking at what others are doing, instead of being doers ourselves. It doesn’t make any sense when you realize how silly it is.

Meanwhile you’ll have some folks looking back on their lives wishing they could have done more. Well, put down the phone, close the YouTube app, delete Facebook, stop meaningless scrolling on instagram, and get busy making your dreams become a reality.

Do as you say.

Don’t be the person that can only driver lip service. Be action oriented across the board. It’s so easy to talk up a good game, and make people think you’re on to something. In actuality, a majority of folks are simply trying to reciprocate what is being said to them, without actually understanding whether the person they are talking to really does what they say. I don’t solely mean from a professional standpoint.

I mean, dealing with people who really get shit done and put the work in, versus those who can’t stop talking about what they’re going to do or trying to do, without any evidence of their actions being seen or taken. In other words, spend less time talking and more time executing.

One goal. One goal only.

Do yourself a favor in 2024. Set one goal, and one goal only. A lot of us have trouble focusing. We think that multitasking is real and achievable. All your brain does is flicker back and forth between activities.

Setting one goal, and one goal only allows you to put 100% of your energy and effort towards completion of that one goal. This way you don’t have any excuses in regard to distractions, or not having enough time. Being that all you have to do is worry about that one thing. It’s much easier to complete one task with more accuracy and efficiency than trying to finish 20 different tasks sporadically. So whatever the goal is you want to accomplish, focus only on that.

Don’t worry about anything else other than finishing that one thing you put on your list for 2024. Don’t get caught up in how big or small this one goal is, or what others will think. As a matter of fact, don’t even tell people what the goal is. Just work on it until it’s done.

No Lazy Days Allowed.

Do lazy days make you feel rested or unproductive?

I don’t have lazy days. I’m either working or resting. Laziness can not be afforded especially as we get older. Every single day needs to matter and count towards your ultimate goal and purpose in life. If you’re resting because you need to recover from the work you’ve done that’s acceptable.

Simply laying around on your ass all day watching television after not completing any productive tasks is insane. A lot of people spend the latter half of their lives bitching, moaning and complaining about how much life sucks, meanwhile when you look back at their younger years, there are a plethora of lazy days throughout that journey. Earn your rest days, and stop having “lazy days” altogether. You’re either working or resting because of the previous work you’ve done. Time moves forward so every second is crucial to our progression or digression. There are no lazy days.

Actionable manifestation.

Manifestation is not just about visualization, or using the power of your mind to bring you those things you most desire. Manifestation is about waking up everyday and working towards the things you want. You have to be active mentally as well as physically to obtain that which you desire most. There is no way around the act of doing. There are thousands of actions we must take on a daily basis that are directly related to an end result we have in our minds.

As you go through your day, be mindful of every action you take. If it’s not in line with your most desired outcome remove it, and replace it with another action that is in line with your most desired result.

Off-putting.

What have you been putting off doing? Why?

Sometimes we make excuses as to why we have not done something. The timing isn’t right. You need more money. When you have a better understanding of the material you’ll do it. If you had someone else to do it with, you’d start.

The fear of failure. The fear of success. There are a ton of reasons I and many others have put things off. Putting it off doesn’t solve the problem. Putting it off doesn’t make it go away.

This is why we must attack the problem or goal head on. Once you find comfort in being uncomfortable, you will stop putting things off. It will make you uncomfortable to put things off. Just imagine not being able to finish any of your sentences when you’re having conversations with people. Every time you put off writing that book, graduating from college, breaking up with that abuser or not being your authentic self, you’re cutting yourself off mid sentence.

You’re censoring your best life continually putting things off. Learn to find comfort in completing tasks. Learn to enjoy not putting things off. Follow through with whatever you said you were going to do.

Fail fast, and strategically.

Wait a second. You mean to tell me, I can go out into the world, fail my ass off, and eventually I’ll either succeed and exceed my expectations or be forgotten about by society? Wow! What a sweet deal! There really are no excuses for putting yourself in a better position especially if you have your whits about you, and know how to execute your plan.

Being too caught up in how people will perceive you, is what makes you freeze up or it causes you to put on extra for the audience. Get the hell out of your own way, and fail faster and more often than everyone around you, and watch how much progress you make towards the life you’ve always wanted.

Selfish Wins.

Sometimes you truly have to step away and reinvent yourself. Remind yourself how far you’ve come. Remind yourself that it’s okay to fail, but it’s never okay to be content with only failing. At some point you have to start putting some point on the scoreboard. Not solely for the sake of scoring, but to prove that you can level up and elevate your game in life.

You have to get some more wins for you. Not for you haters, not for non believers. Not for your family, but wins for you! Keep fucking going!

Family Affair.

I don’t care what it takes, get your affairs in order as efficiently as possible. At some point in life, you get to the place where you have to stop running from your responsibilities. Big or small in some instances it has to be dealt with. This will give you peace of mind and a sense of security in terms of making sure there are no stones left unturned.

Dear Self…

If you don’t get your shit right in 2023, it may never happen for you. You talk a big game about how you want to be the best, or you want to have ownership, meanwhile you’re still not as far along as you need to be. Do you really want it? Does it mean something to you to have a purpose on this planet?

If so, put your head down and do the work until the mission is complete. You can’t keep talking a good game without the action to back it up. Let’s fucking Work!!!!

Finish what we start.

Maybe for the new year, more of us should simply focus on finishing what we start. So many half done ideas, so many lost opportunities, so many issues, that all come about because we refuse to finish them. We love it until it gets difficult. Now we push against resistance once or twice, and quit because we realize it takes much more to finish. Well let’s vow to finish whatever it is we start. This way we’re living life completely and not halfhearted.

Just Work.

Trying to map out the perfect plan is bullshit. Life is too random. Just get up and execute as many daily goals as you can. There’s a goal you have in mind and many steps that need to be completed in order to accomplish that goal. I don’t give a damn how you have to do it, just get it done. Don’t look at how many years it may take.

Just start executing step after step until every step has been conquered. Honestly we waste a lot of time, on meaningless things. Meaningless conversations, and trivial matters. If we put all of our energy into completing that goal, that we say is so important to us, it would be done already. Since it’s not done yet, let’s refocus on what will really get us where we need to be.

Messaged Received.

It doesn’t matter if you’re at the top of your field, or in the bottom percentile, work must be done to stay afloat. You can’t be stagnant at any point. You have to wake up every single day, knowing things may or may not go your way, but still be willing to try. Even with that, trying is not sufficient. At some point you actually have to execute pieces of your plan if you hope to have any ounce of life long satisfaction.

Now is the time.

The opportunity to get ahead seems to be more clear as each month passes. What looks like complete disaster to some, is perfect timing for others. You really have to stay focused on what your target is. Keep it simple and work on the task at hand, as if it is all you have and will ever have. This way you don’t waste your waking moments on frivolous nonsense missing out on ways to get things done. We don’t have a lot of time. Make it count by executing your plans.

Fool me once.

Fool everyone else if you want, but you can’t fool yourself. You know whether or not you’re putting in the work. Whatever you end up doing or not doing is based on every decision you have made up to this point. It’s time to lock in on what is important to you, and get to wherever you envision yourself being 5 years from now, by starting today.

You say this, and say that…

Schedule that exam, go do that interview, or start that idea you were so hyped about. You talk a good game about what you can do, and what you want to do. You’re good making yourself believe and sometimes others buy into it as well. We now need you to execute these plans you keep yapping about. You can waste a lot of time talking yourself up, but one who is efficient at finishing tasks is the one who will command the most freedom.

Get it done for yourself, and teach others to get it done, so you can be free the way you say you want to be.

Days vs Ways

You can count how many days you have left until it’s all said and done, or you can focus on how many ways you can accomplish or complete the task at hand. Seems like there are only two ways of being and you fit one or the other.

Hack your day.

People will often complain that there is not enough time in the day. They will regret not accomplishing certain goals throughout the year. Others can’t figure out how the time flies by so quickly. Systems. You are either unaware that systems do and must exist, or you have a flawed system in place.

You need to organize your activities based on what you want to happen in the long run, while measuring success in shorter durations to be cognizant of actual progress being made. In layman’s terms, have a schedule or routine that you follow consistently no matter what. Each day that you wake up is a chance for you to create momentum towards your desired outcome. We all have the same 24 hours. You can divide them up however you like.

The key to more productivity seems to be, minimizing leisure, and maximizing productivity or output. The longer you operate using this “equation” or method, the more output you’ll get, up to a certain level. After a while you will experience burnout, regression to the mean, or the law of diminishing returns. Therefore you’ll need to rest and recover until fully recouped, and repeat the process with adjustments that match the direction you need to go to keep yielding desired results. It’s an overly stated way to say work systematically until you’re tired. Rest until you’re energized and work again until tired.

Rinse, repeat. One of the most effective things I’ve done, is wake up a few hours earlier at the same time every single day. This forced me to look at what needed to be done in order for me to be satisfied with my day. It starts before any official work. Basically self-work or self-improvement first thing in the morning, or at night if you work night shift. Now it’s on you to figure out what you’re goals are.

Next is the steps that need to be completed. Find the tools and resources you need. Map out time each and every day to work on those steps without missing a beat. The actions will compound over time. Wake up earlier or go to sleep later and get things done.

There are details involved but everyone’s circumstances are different. Some people will continue to make excuses, but when you push yourself, you’ll be amazed by how many things you can get done. Another process is deep concentration on one or two major goals for an extended period of time until you reach your desired outcome. Figure out what works for you. It really is simple, but the excuses people make, results in difficulty completing your assignments.

Don’t over complicate it. Just wake up and put the work in before and after your non-negotiable activities.

Go/No-Go.

We should always be in training for whatever opportunities we desire most. You can’t always determine when it’s time to strike. Just keep putting in the work. Learning. Testing, analyzing, and implementing.

Most of the time, there won’t be someone next to you telling you to go for it. You’ll have to find the courage, and intelligence within yourself, at that moment to determine when to go all-in. This is why practice is key. This is why visualization, as well as simulation are a must. Once you tap into a sense of what it feels like to complete the mission, you’ll be more keen to recognize when to go for it as it appears.

The challenge is remaining patient and persistent enough to stay flexible.

Preparedness.

Don’t forget that every single detail of your existence is a part of the desired outcome. Often times we just assume that when we begin something, all will be exact and executed in chronological order. This is far from the case. Life will throw plenty of shit at you, to test your will. Do you have what it takes when your world seems to be crumbling down?

It’s very easy to be optimistic, and proactive when all is going well. If you can maintain the tunnel vision and keep completing missions, even when you are blinded by the debris, you will probably get a lot further. Just remember to have a plan of attack against the adversity because it’s definitely coming wether you believe it or not.

Repeat it…Repeat it…

Like it or not repetition is the key to efficiency in mastering any craft. After so many tried you won’t even have to think about how to complete any task you have mastered.

When?

When you don’t believe  you don’t care. When you don’t appreciate it you show no effort. When you’re not enthusiastic about the challenges ahead you don’t put in the necessary work.

When you don’t want it you’ll hide it. When you lose the energy behind it you’ll let a lot of things slide.

Do a job that matters to you. Do the work that means the most to you when you complete it.

Otherwise look for a new line of work that is exciting or start working towards leaving where you are now so you can love your next gig.

Your mind

One thing you are in complete control of at all times is your mind.

Take advantage of it and don’t let it run your life for you. You are the master of your own thought. Everything you think and imagine is entirely in your control.

Dig deep into your mind and create a world in which you truly would love to be in and work toward that vision.
