The Purpose of Routine.

A routine is not about boring processes. Routines are not meant to stifle creativity or growth. Routines are designed to prevent unnecessary mistakes. How might this work? Thoughts create awareness.

Awareness triggers actions. Actions become decisions. Decisions become intentional. Within this intentionality, is a pattern. The pattern is not perfect, or linear.

However it does create the illusion of predictability. This predictability allows you to reduce tension. If you build habits that turn into a routine, you can begin seeing problems arise far before they actually occur. This allowing you to adjust or change course if and when necessary.

Routines also alleviate mental stress through decreased decision fatigue. This is why you’ll often find that top performers in sports, business, and entertainment almost always have an obsessive attachment towards their process of practice, and productivity. In other words they have built-in routines. It makes them operate based on the repetitive nature of practicing their routines. Like muscle memory, they reach a flow-like state.

This is when they appear to execute tasks seamlessly, as if they don’t even have to think about what comes next. This fluidity opens of an awareness that is akin to seeing life through a microscope. Being able to spot the slightest discrepancies. Preventing physical damage, financial loss, or creative blockages, by way of streamlined activity.

Easy Fix.

Fixing your problems will help you sleep better at night. You’ll have more confidence and walk the earth with a purpose when you correct what has gone wrong in your personal and professional life. If you never fix your problems, you’ll have a far more difficult existence than you care to withstand.

The Problematic Paradox.

People enjoy discovery, and figuring out how to solve problems. Whether the problems are created intentionally, or they accumulate over time due to unforeseen circumstances, is not as important. It’s what you become throughout the process of solution development that makes you want to relive the experience all over again.

Iterative Attempts.

Your luck is increased by trying more. There’s a catch. You must ensure you’re learning from each failed attempt, to prevent permanent loss. Each lesson learned is supposed to be utilized to craft a better strategy and process of making progress.

Nine times out of ten.

Waking up to repeat the same process from yesterday, and the day before creates predictable outcomes. It’s the subtle changes within those patterns that signal repetition. The possibilities of better, further, deeper or more meaningful outcomes is what makes you get up and do it all over again. Just in case it gets better, you keep showing up to be ready for the unpredictable.

Don’t just fail.

There’s nothing wrong with failure. The part that trips us up is not learning and remaining a failure outright. How does one learn from failure? Simply because you don’t allow yourself to repeat what didn’t work. You study the counter productive process that led to unsatisfactory results. From there you adjusts your thinking and practice. Make note of what works, and repeat until further adjustments are needed. It’s always easier to say, and harder to implement in real time. It’s still worth learning.

Dysfunctional Learning.

We all learn from environmental and cultural factors. We don’t know exactly which factors are best until we start seeking out specific solutions to our problems. This is probably why unlearning the basics of survival and everyday life is so important. There could be inconsistent patterns of behavior you were taught, that actually don’t serve you well in life.

Within the Limits.

There’s not always going to be a direct path to what you want or need. This is obvious for the most part. What might not be as easily understood is the benefit of potential roadblocks. You may not have a limitless supply of resources. You can however work within the limitations of your own capabilities and resources.

This may actually help you develop better strategies and workarounds for making the progress you need to make.

You’re stiff.

You’re not in competition with anybody other than yourself. Did you beat last year’s version of you? If not, figure out how you can. Use it as a way to exhibit self awareness. You’ll learn how to become more intentional about the decisions you make on a daily basis.

Self-deception.

Definition:

noun

  1. the action or practice of allowing oneself to believe that a false or unvalidated feeling, idea, or situation is true.

How many times have you lied to yourself in order to justify your actions and emotions? Probably more times than you care to admit. Self-deception is dangerous. Self-deception can at times be used as a defense mechanism against past trauma. On the other hand, self-deception causes us to twist our own words and beliefs to make them fit whatever reality we think we’re living or progressing towards.

Honesty might actually be harder to come by if many of us are deceiving ourselves (let alone others) just to fit in or get by, and feel better about how things turned out. Find out when you last lied to yourself, about something you thought to be true, but wasn’t. Make the mental shift, and face your reality. I am flawed and so are you. Does this mean we give up and don’t make progress? No.

It means it’s time to get rid of the lies in our head. Fix what you lie to yourself about and be okay with starting where you are. Stop comparing yourself to others. Stop trying to be something you’re not just to satisfy your ego. Try to find your true identity within.

Don’t allow self -deception to hold you back from being authentic.

Flailing failure.

Failure should be used as a lesson and a blessing. Failure can teach you things that success just won’t. In other words, always adjust your process to make room for failure. This way you stop avoiding failure, while remaining focused on achieving success.

Almost forgot.

Today was too normal of a day in terms of my thought process. I worked on some creative projects, and critiqued my results until I was satisfied. Not too into what’s happening in markets (stocks) since it’s mostly, just a “go to cash” kind of energy we’ve been getting and giving. I’ll start working on episode 121 of my podcast tomorrow. It airs this Sunday.

At this point I’m just breaking up the monotony of my everyday routine. I am so habit bound that when I simply change one tiny action, I’ll forget something major right after, if that makes sense. I’m used to waking up and robotically getting things done a certain way. Now when I break routine, I feel like I should punish myself. The truth is, I’ve been needing to take a break.

It’s been a long two years of recalibrating my brain, and learning to think about the world a tiny bit different. Also, it’s fun to escape rules and regulations, to be fully creative. I also broke another streak/rule of blogging which drives me nuts, but I guess that’s why this post came about. Because I almost forgot to write it.

Enjoy your day.

Don’t become fixated on what works. You may be surprised when what always happens, doesn’t actually happen this time around. Continue to be open and able to make adjustments on the fly, because life will always shake you up.

Stoicism & rationality.

There is only but so much we can do to adjust and prepare for the best or worse case scenario. The most appropriate approach would seem to be, the ability to readjust your system or plan at any given moment. Even when you consider all of the probable factors, we just can’t predict the future outcome. Just be open to doing things a little or a lot different or not having to change anything at all. This will allow you to form more of a stoic perspective towards life.

Can you handle it?

A lot of us have a plan when things go good. Not enough of us, have plans when things don’t work out exactly how we thought they would. Looking at entrepreneurship, you’ll notice how a lot of business people are able to adjust during turbulent times. They essentially strive in times of fear, and chaos.

We must adopt the same tactics and behavior. Being able to accurately steer through academic storms, economic disasters, or relationship drama is the idea response to adversity. If we can’t handle a little failure, or shakiness, we don’t deserve to enjoy the ideal circumstances we long for.

Lesson Learned (Earned).

It’s easy to make mistakes, but difficult for folks to learn the lesson. Learning the lesson means stepping outside of yourself. It means looking at what you are, rather than who you are or how you felt. You must be critical of your weaknesses, and in some instances disregard your strengths, because, that’s probably where the lesson is. we all suffer from psychological, and physical behavioral patterns. When you see what causes your hiccups, that’s what needs to be addressed and removed from your life. Admitting you were off the mark is okay, as long as you work on becoming better.

Another thing that is uncomfortable about learning lessons is having to adjust and or change our routine. This however can force artificial growth to become self awareness, if that makes sense. I could go on, but I think you get the point.

Dig In.

Often times we jump ship when things are not going the way we thought they would. This is very counterproductive. If anything, you should go a little deeper into solving the problem you’re having. The hurdles you experience, are a time to be investigative in order to figure out what needs to be adjusted. Another thing that may be hurting you, is being overly obsessive.

When things are new and fresh we are all in, and care about every little detail. When things don’t come as easy we get lazy or lackluster in our pursuit. Some of us even start looking at other avenues, industries or projects. If you say you want this, dig into the difficulties. Learn to solve your own problems.

This way you know how to solve other peoples problems when it’s time to teach or share your wisdom.

A word.

Regardless of what you see and here about how things are going south, and panic is setting in, you still have to produce ideas and products. You still have to stay optimistic enough to keep a longterm perspective on everything. If we get too fixated on how bad things seem to be now, we might throw in the towel, and that doesn’t seem to make the most sense. Organize your life on the other side of chaos because as usual there will be a reversal or reversion of some sort. It might now be as profound as the past, or enough of a push into the future, but things will normalize over time.

Make it your goal to come out more intelligent, stronger, better off financially, and sharper mentally. What else are you going to do with your time?

No Herd Zone!

This zone right here, is for free thinking and giving yourself the green light to make things happen. Herd mentality is counterproductive. It’s counterintuitive. It’s a death sentence. You don’t have to follow the herd.

However you do need to be mindful of what direction the herd is going in. This way you can take a detour after you assess what the best possible scenario is for your most desired or realistic outcome. You don’t stalk the herd. You don’t gaze into the herd. You utilize it as a compass. That’s it.

It’s up to you as a doer and starter to maintain your own wisdom. You know you’re on a mission, so stay focused. Keep creating and doing things that will challenge yourself and others. The herd will continue to wait for direction from the head farmer. This lets you know what social convention is at the moment, and allows you to adjust in a contrarian manner.

Get unstuck.

You can fixate on what went wrong or you can focus your energy on what worked. The problem is, some people will try and do both. You have to pick one, and it seems more appropriate to chose the latter. You will experience loss or failure from time to time, and honestly it’s a sign of progress. Dwelling on failures is unnecessary and counterproductive.

Once you realized you missed your mark, adjust your strategy and actions. From there you can recalibrate your focus on the end goal.

Deciding on the decisions you make.

Everyday you make a series of decisions. These decisions lead you to one of two places, your progression or digression. When all is well what will you decide? When all is bad, will you be able and willing to adjust your decisions to get the desired results you want? Only you know the answers.

Well…

They say “stay the course” but somwtimes you have to bail the ship. In order to reach the next level of growth there may be something you have to give up. Some behaviors you might have to modify. Are you will to make the necessary adjustments in order to succeed?

Still moving forward.

Last night I couldn’t submit an online job application until I changed my race from african american to white.

Happy new year to me! Ha!

It’s 2017. Why do people have to keep going through this? Whatever your current situation is, keep fighting through it. On the other side of pain,is your break through.

When people change.

People change everyday. I’d advise you to never give 100 percent of your trust to anyone. I’m sure a spouse might deserve 98 percent or even 99. If you ask me, personally a full 100 percent is out of the question.

Of course this is not the best way to go about things. It’s just something I personally live by.

You can be as ready and preapred as you want. You can check any corner, or write out every single plan. You love as hard as you possibly can, count every calorie, and adjust your goals to a “T”. One thing you can not do this with is human beings. We are prone or change and or error. It’s just in our nature.

It’s rare to find someone or a group of people that stay EXACTLY the same as they were from the first day you met them.

But don’t take my advice for it. Just explore all of your professional and personally relationships and see for yourself.

To become better.

Improvement does not come unless you make the necessary adjustments. You can’t keep doing the same and expect different. Take a second, observe, plan, and work according to your desired outcome. Don’t just walk around in circles hoping to find your destination.

Change is needed.

If you don’t take chances on putting yourself in different types of situations, how will you lear how to adapt to changes?

Change is good. Don’t fear the unknown. Embrace it with enthusiasm, and trust in your own ability, to adjust. Each and every one of us needs something new to occur from time to time.

I encourage you

If you don’t change your habits, your habits will consume you entirely.

Learn to break the cycle every once in a while.

To get something knew out of life, you can’t always have the same set of eyes.

Like look at a book or newspaper wearing glasses: sometimes you move the glasses from in front of your eyes to readjust your vision.

Same thing with how you do what you do.

Switch it up and results will follow.

Adjust your actions, control your destiny.

Without you changing a things, with all of your daily habits that you engage in throughout a days work, will you be better 5 years from now?

Don’t just answer. Analyze, hypothesize, mediate on it. Really look at your life, daily activity, and mental awareness. Do you truly see it leading you into a much better half decade than today or 5 years ago?

If you hesitated, flinched, dropped your shoulders, or took a deep breath, it’s time to turn it up a notch. Your output for the next 5 years is critical. Do you really want to be the same exact person you are today knowing you can be a lot better later on?

This is my complacency reminder to you. Don’t just take what is given to you. Don’t just be content with how things are panning out. You might not be 100% in control of everything that happens to you , but I believe if you get a tight enough grip on the way you are doing things, you can up your control percentage by at least 50%.

Stop playing around and get to where you REALLY want to be.

The worst one-liner of all time: “Maybe it was meant to happen like this.”

NO! You let it happen or didn’t readjust your actions after it happened.

Next level shit

Sometimes the level we are on is not enough. A lot of times we think we took it all the way to the tip of the iceberg when in actuality we barely made it off of the base.

So what do you do when you think this way? You take to the next level. You re-vamp, re-boot, re-adjust, re-organize,  re-organize, and re-think everything in order to get something new, bigger, better, and more interesting.  Here’s the thing about different levels and stages in projects and in life in general: your life and or project will always call for next level innovations.

After you do something once, you can not go back to that one thing. Technically you can but someone (a fan of your work, family, friends, strangers etc.) will call for a different look. A different vibe and feel. There will always be a perfect explanation as to why you should go further than you did with the previous project.

That is the easy part. The hardest part of it all is taking the time to stop in the middle of creating (art, a term paper, proposal, contract, account, house etc.) to listen to good praise, bad reviews, and constructive criticism. Then using what was said about your creation and incorporating those ideas and many other new ideas to your next body of work.

It must be done this way. It happens to most of us if we are around passionate people who people who really care about how we do things. Otherwise you need to find a new groups of contributors, friends, and business associates.

Be glad to be pushed to the next level even when or if it annoys you because it will always ensure that greatness is the end result.

Reflect and restructure

When it comes to our goals. When it comes to our dreams. We need to be reflecting. Reflecting on what we have accomplished. Reflecting on what went wrong and how to move forward. We need to reflect on the vision we have.

We also need to restructure. We need to rebuild, re-plan, re-apply and adjust.

Without either we suffer from premature defeat.
