I'm still playing The Hundret Line: Last Defense Academy. But at least i'm able to say something about it. I finished the first part of the game and unsure how much i will be doing in the second half.
In case you haven't played the game, it's some kind of visual novel and tactical rpg in one. More visual novel in the second half of the game. And the tactical gameplay is more on the defensive side. You almost always have do defend the school or something else from dmg.
I have played a lot tactial rpgs, and some of them had single defense missions, but usualy i would say The Hundret Line was different and interesting enough to differ from other games.
Besides the tactical gameplay of course there is a story, and it remind me of dangan ronpa, but probably isn't as crazy. All characters are exaggeratedly written, but still kind of logical, so some degree. I still need to play the big part of the story, so kinda exited and hope to get a good ending

I say it's a weak year because i haven't finished 3 games on this list, even though i want to. That's all because of personal stuff, but i want to play more games 2026 again.
I can't even say which is my favorite, Clair Obscure: Expedition 33 is received a ridicilous amout of awards, but it think it's hype is a bit annoying, because i think of it of a very good game, but not exceptional.
The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie is not the strongest trails title for me. It's again a good game in my opinion, but i expect more of the finish of act 1, but Trails of Cold Steel III/IV and Trails to Azure are better.
Maybe it will be A Hundret Line: Last Defense Academy, but haven't finished it.
Digimon, maybe i was for sure the fastest i have finished because irl reasons and felt the best to play at the moment. Let's say Digimon Story Time Strangers is my favorite because it was there at the best time to play it, not because it's the best game.
Clair Obscur Expédition 33: I’m struggling with it. I don’t like the dodge mechanic, it has way too much impact during battles, but I understand why people love it.
Octopath Traveller 2: I didn’t get very far, the gameplay loop felt too similar to the first game, the stories didn’t drag me in. Pretty though.

You probably right, that they got wrapped up in the studio's narrative. I can't for example understand how it get the awards for the best art direction, i think most of the enviroment is not to excited, i often get even lost in the dungeon because everything looks the same. But I'm also looking forward what Sandfall is doing next.

I see it more as jrpg or tactical rpg but apperantly some here post about it, so i play currently a hundred line: last defense academy. But i'm just a few days after the demo, so i think day 11 or 12. While i like the story so fast i expect it to keep getting more excited the more days i play.
Some genres go hand in hand. Sometimes a game doesn't belong to just one genreand maybe such games are the reason to look into in this case VNs. I haven't played to much VNs, but since I played Digimon Survive, which is more VN than tactical rpg, I occasionally play a VN or at least look at upcoming

Anime style game really don't need remaster in such a short time. Looks like a normal port. I like Berseria, it's maybe a good version if you don't own it already. Maybe remaster is just marketing
While Nihon Falcom generally finds it tricky to handle simultaneous global releases and Steam ports on its own, being a remake, Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter presented the studio with a rare opportunity to commit to the endeavor. “We felt that if we didn’t do a simultaneous worldwide release now, then when would we ever do it?” That said, the workload involved was still quite challenging for Nihon Falcom. Thankfully, it seems to have paid off.
If Persona 5 (royal) sold 10,54mio and strikers 2 mio. There is only approximately 540k left for tactica and dancing game. Maybe i should play tactica soon and see if deserved, bought it a few years ago.
I played a lot dynasty warriors, samurai warriors games in the past, got burned out of them, so i never even tried strikers. And i get it with the cast, i feel it's not mean to be a franchise, because in the base game there are story section present the cast, that has an impact while playing, that's not tgere on the other games.
It's to full of people, to much people. It's big, so probably worth visiting because the viarity of things you get there, but don't go there on the weekend. If possible try from Monday to Thursday.
I finished Digimon Story Time Strangers, i get why the user rating is so much better than the other rating on metacritic. It does a lot think right that maybe convice some creature collection fans to like this game a lot. The cities and very lively, you see so much different digimon in every corner of the cities, it felt lifely, that good enough even though the effect is quite simple, because in reallity they stand on one place. The story get better and better in a run and a good amount of emotional, that convince a lot of player.
And i think the director has made a lot good decitions, because this game doesn't have the budget of other AAA games for sure, the graphic is just good enough, a lot npc don't have face, but they just not important, the game is very linear, so you don't have to build to big worlds.
But that's why i think the user rating of 9/10 is a bit to much 7-8/10 is a fair review rating. This game is good enough in every part but not outstanding and has flaws, maybe the biggest in the battle system and the personality system. The story start rather weak, get better and i liked the end and some middle parts a lot, but some story moment or especially the dialoges are just ok. I want to make a post about it, but i'm very stresst and wasn't in the mood for it. But in the end i enjoyed it, but i'm very fond of monster collection games.
I will play or just start chained echoes, and something on the switch, but i don't know it's The Hundres Line: last Defence academy or Tactics Orgre Reborn.

Ys X has two versions, Ys X: Nordic, which got an Switch, PS4, PS5 and steam release and an enhaned version that got released in japan only on switch 2 and steam so far. I think 2026 in west. Just keep that in mind.
