Flipping the bits on a magnetic medium back and forth doesn’t always flip them entirely. Using more sensitive equipment to read back the bits can see the faint hints of what the bits used to be, which is why multiple overwrites with random information is the only way to be sure (and even then, there are advanced techniques that try to see past all that noise. The more you overwrite, the less sure any of these techniques are to work.

    For along time I preferred the Goldeneye control scheme and I learned it so well that I still revert back sometimes (left stick to forward/back and rotate and right stick [c buttons] to pitch snd strafe). Most games don’t offer this at all anymore, but it was seriously good for peeking around corners. Modern left-strafe/right-look inverts it.

    Everyone from individuals to Fortune 500s are storing their data on OneDrive and SharePoint in the cloud.

    ML models (not necessarily LLMs) are incredible at finding patterns and targeted data points in huge data sets.

    I didn’t think Obama was going to deliver a communist utopia, but I did think he was going to show people that the path to the right ways (clean energy, affordable and accessible healthcare) were possible and not that painful to start down the path of.

    And it all got watered down, including the man himself, into neoliberal trash, as you enumerated above. It was certainly the biggest let-down presidency of our lifetimes, which is why it feels awful compared to the others (well, except Trump). It was supposed to finally be one for us.
