Interactive Composite Museum Presentations
Last updated: October 2025
At HistoryIT, we believe everyone should be able to explore and engage with history. Our interactive composite museum presentations, whether experienced online or through touchscreen installations, are designed with inclusion in mind so that visitors of all abilities can access and enjoy the stories they tell.
Our Commitment
We work to make our digital museum experiences as accessible as possible. Our goal is to meet the principles of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA—the international standard for digital accessibility—across both online and on-site versions of our presentations.
Accessibility Features
Our interactive composite museum presentations currently include:
- Clear visual design with strong color contrast and legible text
- Logical page and screen structures for easier navigation
- Touch-friendly buttons and intuitive menus
- Alternative text for most images and icons
- Consistent layouts that minimize cognitive load
Current Limitations
While many accessibility features are in place, we recognize there is more to do.
Some areas we’re still improving include:
- Keyboard navigation: a small number of interactive elements are not yet fully operable without touch input.
- Labeling: some placeholder or missing text labels may affect how screen readers interpret content.
- Assistive technology support: our online and touchscreen environments have limited screen-reader compatibility due to closed operating systems.
We continue to test and refine these areas, using accessibility audits and user feedback to guide updates.
How We Test
We review our experiences against WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards using both automated tools and human evaluation. This testing includes people who use assistive technologies.
