Introduction

Welcome to the World of Piql!

The Help Center is the best place to start understanding the Piql Services and technology, how to get quickly started and indulge in more in-depth topics.

By combining modern, cutting-edge technology with the proven stability of the world’s most secure medium, Piql ensures your information remains authentic, accessible, and secure for centuries.

The Core Piql Concepts

The Piql ecosystem is built on a few primary components that work together to provide guaranteed access to your data, regardless of future technological changes.

piqlFilm: The Future-Proof Medium

piqlFilm is the foundation of our solution. It is a high-density, specialised photosensitive film engineered for longevity.

  • Migration-Free: piqlFilm is migration-free with no need of moving data to another storage medium in the future. The medium is self-contained (everything you need to access the information in the future is stored on the medium itself) and formats are future-proof once normalised.
  • Longevity: Independent tests certify the medium to protect data for 1,000+ years.
  • Immutability: Since the stored data is physically offline and off-grid, it is inherently protected from all cyber threats, including hacking, viruses, and ransomware. Information cannot be changed, altered or deleted after being stored on the medium.
  • Access: Data is stored in an open format, along with human-readable instructions and open-source decoding software, ensuring future generations can always access the information without relying on proprietary hardware or software.

piqlConnect: Your Digital Dashboard

piqlConnect is our cloud-based platform that acts as the user interface for managing your preserved assets.

This platform allows you to:

  • Manage Data: Easily upload and prepare files for long-term storage.
  • Metadata Richness: Flexible metadata handling, to ensure every file is fully searchable and contextualised for future retrieval.
  • Control the process: When you need an archived file, you use piqlConnect to search and request its retrieval from the secure offline vault.

Storage and Retrieval (The piqlVaults)

Once your data is written to the piqlFilm using the piqlWriter, the physical reels are stored in certified, ultra-secure, offline facilities known as piqlVaults.

The most renowned of these is the Arctic World Archive (AWA), located deep inside a repurposed coal mine on the Norwegian island of Svalbard, governed by the Arctic World Archive Foundation. This location provides extreme security against natural disasters, political instability, and electromagnetic events.

Retrieval of data from piqlFilm can be done requested retrieval from piqlConnect. Some clients also choose to have their own piqlReader to control the full retrieval process themselves for specific security requirements.
