  • From an colleague of mine, who bought an M1 Macbook Pro when they were new; he told me that there was a Wine fork (don’t know the name sadly) for Apple silicon which kinda worked with most (older) Steam games, not as nice as Proton on x86-64 Linux, but good enough for his game tastes. Don’t know if it’s still maintained or not…

  • Yes, I understand that GNOME (3+) has a place in Linux/*nix world and that, from a common user’s perspective, it might be enough or even more intuitive than Windows and MacOS ever were. Blind hating never helped anyone, especially in FOSS.

For me, as someone outside the common user’s realm, the weird aftertaste of internal dev drama and their decisions which features are “needed” and which are not needed (server-side decorations, tray-items, etc.) deter me from using GNOME more than the annual one-month tryout (“Maybe it isn’t that limiting to me as I thought?”).

A sad day for this instance indeed.

While I am glad to hear that otherwise all federation goes on, only blocking the site directly for UK residents, the underlying issue still remains. I am not a UK citizen nor do I live in the UK, but it’s just disappointing nonetheless.

    Tap for spoiler

    (Fucking corrupt bastards.)

  • While I agree with the message, that the people should leave all centralized Social Media services, the big mistake here is concentrating a massive user-base on one instance (.ml) of one specific service (Lemmy) instead of spreading the influx towards many smaller, but still solid instances and federated services (PieFed, Mastodon, MBin).

Even disregarding .ml’s reputation, if this post does reach a substantial user-base, the only thing happening then is .ml receiving a HoD and people losing faith in the Fediverse as a whole (e: spelling) due to this, sadly. :c

    Thanks for context!

I hope that as soon as the US will act more iffy, these countermeasures will kick in, as even the US should know then that they aren’t all mighty.

I don’t know if you have more info, but are these measures reversible or absolute?
