5·2 days agoA chance to practice Norwegian in everyday life has presented itself. My country’s public TV channel is terrible when it comes to showing the Olympics so I’ve been watching the winter Olympics through the Norwegian public channels. Understanding the commentary takes much more concentration than I thought it would but they speak more clearly than most Norwegian media so it’s pretty helpful for listening practice. These channels also show other sports and some documentaries so I’ll try to continue watching after the games are over.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you miss drinking from the water fountain?
12·2 days agoI’ve only drank from water fountains in schools and gyms. No, I don’t miss waiting in line and watching the person in front French kiss the thing.

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Under a new ordinance passed by Houston, riding an e-bike between 8PM and 4AM is now illegal. The Mayor of Houston says they are a major security riskEnglish
14·3 days agoIsn’t that more of a problem with delivery services though? We don’t have e-bikes here. Delivery drivers ride motorcycles. They still ride on sidewalks, filter between everything and run red lights. From what I understand this happens in places that use normal bikes too. Banning e-bikes will only help with the battery issue.

Sorry, I don’t get the double negative. My point was that DeepL using Ai in general is not weird or bad by itself.
The screenshot doesn’t claim to use LLMs though. AI could be anything ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Ok I see what you mean. On mobile it still opens the translator but on desktop it’s pretty annoying.
As stupid as that home page looks, DeepL is one of the services that was already using “AI” and it’s a valid use case. Has the functionality actually changed?

cats@lemmy.world•UPDATE: Kitty was rescued and is safe! This poor cat has been stuck for 5 days, and Xcel Energy is refusing to turn off electricity so the cat can be rescued
18·4 days agoMaybe it’s weird that the cat didn’t try jumping down but this situation is not that rare. I’ve seen a workplace where a cat was stuck in one of those semi-floors between windows and when asked the employees were like, oh yeah, she’s been there a few days.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the scariest fictional media you've seen?
2·6 days agoIt Follows had a great concept but kinda missed the execution by trying to be traditionally scary. The first appearances of the monster where it still looked like a human were the best because it could be anywhere at any moment. Then it started showing up as a zombie and lost that. It’s still a good movie but it could have been so much better.

5·8 days agoThat second person is a pain. Costa Rica has one of the more reasonable grammars. And then you get places like Chile and Uruguay where it seems any combination of voseo, tuteo and that special -ai thing is valid even in the same sentence.

On my current mouse it’s the scrollwheel that’s slowly failing but middle click works fine. There’s also a box of non-functional mice in my house. Last time I checked it contained one mouse with broken middle click, one with broken left click and one with broken right click. So I guess I disagree with your theory.
