As long as they remember to make it good. Seems like they forgot about that part last season.

# Doctor Who's next two series already written despite 'Disney funding cuts' ## Despite a 'big pause' until 2027 to allow for the next run to be filmed, Doctor Who will not end with the current series, as has been rumoured [**Nicola Methven**](https://www.mirror.co.uk/authors/nicola-methven/) Ncuti Gatwa may be leaving and the Disney funding could be withdrawn - but [Doctor Who](https://www.mirror.co.uk/all-about/doctor-who) will continue on [BBC1](https://www.mirror.co.uk/all-about/bbc1), according to insiders. Rumours have been swirling that the plug will be pulled altogether if Disney decides to end its co-production deal, amid claims of falling ratings and a backlash against so-called “woke” storylines. But sources on the sci-fi series, which generates around £100million for [BBC](https://www.mirror.co.uk/all-about/bbc) Studios through global licensing deals and merchandising, claim that showrunner [Russell T Davies](https://www.mirror.co.uk/all-about/russell-t-davies) has already planned the next two seasons, having almost completed scripts for series 16 and with stories for the 17th series worked out. READ MORE: [Kirstie Allsopp fears being 'replaced' on Location, Location, Location](https://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/kirstie-allsopp-fears-being-replaced-35217333) It is also claimed that if [Disney](https://www.mirror.co.uk/all-about/walt-disney) departs, it might not have as big an impact as feared by some fans. This is because a “huge chunk” of the extra budget - up to £10 million per episode - is spent on the technical task of improving the picture quality to a level which wouldn’t be necessary if it reverted back to being a BBC standalone series. The BBC broadcasts its high-definition shows in 2K picture quality, but Disney needs a 4K image for its streaming service and the additional effects work costs a significant amount. One source claimed that the reason the show, which first aired in 1963, has a huge and loyal global audience is unrelated to the cash injection from Disney. “When Doctor Who began its partnership with Disney+, there was additional funding put in place. Doctor Who is an expensive show to make, with its effects budget taking up a significant part of the overall spend, so if Disney were to withdraw its funding, then there wouldn't be as significant an impact on production as some fans may think. The TARDIS set is still standing in Cardiff, all ready to go on new adventures.” BBC Studios has been producing the show with Disney since 2023. It has long been known that a lengthy hiatus will come after the current series finishes later this month. The [Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/) reported last October that the on-screen gap could last for two years, with no new Doctor Who series likely until 2027. One insider said: “Whether or not Disney stays, the expectation is that the show will continue. Yes, there will be a gap while the scripts are finalised, the episodes are filmed and the editing process takes place. But we’ll be back. The wait won’t be forever, just a big pause.” Disney said at the outset that the decision over any renewed funding would only be made once [Ncut](https://www.mirror.co.uk/all-about/ncuti-gatwa)i’s second full series had aired. The Scottish actor’s future on the show remains uncertain. Overnight ratings are lower than last year’s, but the Doctor Who brand remains one of the most popular on BBC [iPlayer](https://www.mirror.co.uk/all-about/iplayer), and the series looks set for an average audience of over 4million once the 28-day ratings are released. Russell has already dropped hints that the show will go on, with him in place, in an interview with Dr Who Magazine. Asked about scripts for the next run, he replied: “Three of them sitting there, three different writers. One script already on draft six.” And earlier this year, the showrunner declared: “I am confident. Doctor Who is forever, and the future is bright!” There is currently no festive special ordered for this year, despite the BBC having had one ever since the reboot took place in 2005. Next year, to plug the absence of Doctor Who caused by the Disney decision delay, fans will instead be served the spin-off show The War Between the Land and the Sea. Starring Russell Tovey and [Gugu Mbatha-Raw](https://www.mirror.co.uk/all-about/gugu-mbatha-raw), the story will see UNIT trying to prevent a global war caused by the return of the Sea Devils. Russell has claimed that the show “will shake the Whoniverse to its foundations”.

I wish Sophie Ellis-Bextor will also replace him as a Doctor. His play is soulless.

Hopefully they remember the goal is to write good episodes and not just steaming piles of shit. Seems like the writers forgot that last season.
