The Guernsey Household Income Report provides a profile of household incomes in Guernsey. The Report includes detailed information on unequivalised and equivalised household incomes in Guernsey based on data sourced from the Rolling Electronic Census. It also includes information on households who have equivalised net incomes lower than 60% of the median (an internationally recognised threshold) and also contains a gini coefficient and a decile ratio for Guernsey, to enable international comparisons to be made. Please note that the real percentage change figures in Tables 4.1.1 and 4.1.2 on page 6 were revised in August 2025 following the discovery of a human error.
The headlines from the 2022 Report are as follows:
- In 2022, the mean gross unequivalised household income was £74,568 (£1,434 per week). This increased by 5.0% in nominal terms between 2017 and 2022 and decreased by 10.3% in real terms between 2017 and 2022.
- In 2022, the median gross unequivalised household income was £55,116 (£1,060 per week). This increased by 5.3% in nominal terms between 2017 and 2022 and decreased by 10.0% in real terms between 2017 and 2022.
- The lowest quintile represents the bottom 20% of all households when sorted by equivalised income. It had an upper boundary of £31,167 (equivalised household income) in 2022. For households that were in the lowest income quintile, 63% of their gross income was derived from old age pensions, 24% was classified as private income, whilst benefits (excluding old age pensions) accounted for 13%.
- The highest income quintile represents the top 20% of all households when sorted by equivalised income and had a lower boundary of £90,275 in 2022. Across the highest income quintile, 94% of income was classified as private income.
- In 2022, the mean household income net of social security, income tax and housing costs (equivalised) was £46,421 (£893 per week) and the median household income net of social security, income tax and housing costs (equivalised) was £37,197 (£715 per week).
- The household composition with the lowest unequivalised mean household income after deduction of social security contributions, income tax and estimated housing costs was the one adult OAP age and over group, at £17,857.
- In 2022, 23% of households and 19% of people included in the analysis were found to have a household income net of social security, income tax and housing costs which was less than 60% of the median (£22,318).
- The Gini coefficient for equivalised income net of social security contributions and income tax but before housing cost was 0.34 in 2022 compared with 0.37 in 2017.
- The bottom 50% of all households, when ranked by net income, had 27% of the total equivalised net income in 2022 and the top 5% of all households, when ranked, had 18%.
- Households with children attending The Ladies College (Reception to Year 6) had the highest equivalised median income for households with children at primary school, at £116,889, in 2022 whilst households with children attending Le Rondin had the lowest at £36,455.
- Households with children attending The Ladies College (Year 7 and above) had the highest equivalised median income at £102,135 in 2022 for households with children at secondary school, whilst households with children attending Les Varendes High School/Grammar had the lowest, at £53,295.
- In 2022, households living in Open Market (Part A) accommodation had a lower equivalised median gross household income (£50,337) than households living in Local Market accommodation (£54,244). However, households living in Open Market (Part A) had a higher mean (£76,811) than households living in Local Market accommodation (£66,745).

The Report breaks down expenditure by household income, tenure and composition, makes comparisons with the 2012-2013 results and also considers the impact that lockdown and the Coronavirus pandemic have had on spending patterns in Guernsey. The latest Report can be downloaded from this page, but older reports can be found here.

The 2023-2024 Household Expenditure Survey is closing at the end of 2024 and the results will be added to this page once the data has been input, checked and anlaysed.
