FFMPEG is an open-source, cross-platform suite for audio and video processing developed by the FFmpeg project. It provides powerful command-line tools and libraries to record, convert, stream, analyze, and play media. With broad codec and format support, robust filtering, and hardware-acceleration options, FFmpeg is widely used by developers, broadcasters, archivists, and content creators.

Key capabilities:

  • Transcoding and remuxing between hundreds of formats and codecs (e.g., H.264/H.265, AV1, VP9, AAC, MP3, FLAC)
  • Streaming and capture with protocols such as HLS, DASH, RTMP, RTSP, and SRT
  • Extensive audio and video filters for scaling, color conversion, denoising, overlays, subtitles, trimming, concatenation, loudness normalization, and more
  • Hardware acceleration on major platforms (e.g., NVENC/NVDEC, Quick Sync Video, VideoToolbox, VAAPI, DXVA2)
  • Device capture and screen recording
  • Batch processing and automation-friendly command-line interface

Included tools:

  • ffmpeg: the primary media transcoder and processing engine
  • ffprobe: a media analyzer for inspecting streams, codecs, and metadata
  • ffplay: a simple media player for quick preview and testing

Developers can link against FFmpeg’s libraries (libavcodec, libavformat, libavfilter, libswscale, libswresample, and others) to build high-performance media applications. FFmpeg is licensed under the LGPL or GPL, depending on configuration and included components, and runs on Linux, macOS, and Windows.

FFMPEG is developed by FFMPEG. The most popular version of this product among our users is 7.1. The name of the program executable file is MOV2AVI.exe.
