11·1 day agoLook, don’t take this personally but can we stop with this discourse?
It’s disingenuous at best.
“Gay” isn’t the problem. See how it’s paired with “Republican”? You know, the people famous for wanting to repeal gay marriage? The one who says it’s not right to have anything but a “traditional family”? The ones who constantly squawk about the fact that trans people exist at all like we’re forcing churches to close and putting up learherdaddy paddle & lube emporiums in their place? The ones who say that all trans people should be jailed because a mass shooter identified as one?
You know, those demented reactionary pieces of shit? How could anyone who is gay defend ANY of that?
So, to rebuke your post - it’s not the gay that’s the problem. How do you put any stock into a person’s sanity when they’re such a walking contradiction?
It’s like saying “Jewish Nazi”, or “vegan pitmaster”. Like yeah, I’m sure they exist but I cannot fathom the logic behind landing there.
Anyway, let’s stop pretending we can’t read into the meaning there, that’s so “woke 1.0” and we can all do better than that.

3·1 day agoIt’s absolutely both.
Fucking gaming, forget gaming for a second. That is small potatoes.
Imagine if you will, all businesses and citizens storing their documents, photos, schedules, calendars, emails, contacts, social graphs in the cloud. We’ve know how toxic monetization of social media profiling has been, but again forget that, small potatoes.
Business move their storage to the cloud. Hundreds of thousands of AI agents scour over and summarize all of that data - not the LLMs designed to dazzle the public but purpose-built ML models designed to analyze financial reports, engineering whitepapers, patent applications, mission statements, insider information. You can see markets move in real time. You can gauge who is going to beat you and who is going to crash and burn before they do. You can see where the dark money is coming from - whether it’s on your side or not. You can discern where opposing political messaging is reaching people, and dissect how they’re interacting with it. You can hold all of society hostage.
Cameras move their storage to the cloud. Hospital systems. Cars beam constant telemetry. There’s nowhere to hide, it’s a constant prison and if you even appear to be getting out of line, it’s over for you.
We’re not there yet but this is what they’re building. Trump is mad that America broke up his pedo ring and his revenge is putting us all in a demented techno prison.

3·2 days agoOh, you won’t need a PC, peon. Soon your house will be littered with free complementary Amazon Fire tablets that connect to the cloud for all functions. They stream games! Technology@lemmy.world•Dr. Oz pushes AI avatars as a fix for rural health care. Not so fast, critics sayEnglish
17·4 days agoThe way these guys push AI - “whether you want it or not” - makes me sure there is something much more sinister about this tech than the bumbling autocorrect idiocy we know it as. Is it the greatest spying tool ever? Is it designed to siphon all money from all businesses that previously went to wages for both skilled and unskilled labor? Does it subtly brainwash people?
I d been a tech guy my entire life, but it’s really looking like we need to destroy it all.

8·7 days agoFlipping the bits on a magnetic medium back and forth doesn’t always flip them entirely. Using more sensitive equipment to read back the bits can see the faint hints of what the bits used to be, which is why multiple overwrites with random information is the only way to be sure (and even then, there are advanced techniques that try to see past all that noise. The more you overwrite, the less sure any of these techniques are to work.
