For newer Framework devices like the Framework 13 AMD that make use of the ChromeOS Embedded Controller (EC), the upcoming Linux 7.0 kernel is adding fan target support as well as fan temperature threshold handling.

The Framework Desktop PC now starts at $1,139.

We have a few last updates for you as we reach the end of the year. First, we’re happy to share that we’re now in stock on all Framework Desktop system configurations, including the top end 128GB version that has been extremely popular for machine learning. We’re just wrapping up the last batch of 128GB Mainboards as well, and will be in stock early next year on those. We’re also in stock on the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Graphics Module that we recently introduced on the updated Framework Laptop 16. For the first time, we’ve launched refurbished versions of Framework Laptop 16 in the US and Canada too, bringing it to the lowest price yet. Also on discounts, we’re permanently lowering the price on Green and Red Bezels for Framework Laptop 13 (happy Bezelmas!) as we consume the remaining material in the supply base to end-of-life these and make room for new colors in the future.

Framework Computer had worked to keep their memory prices lower than other laptop vendors amid the ongoing memory shortages throughput the industry worldwide. But today they’ve finally had to cave in and increase their DDR5 memory modules for the Framework Laptop DIY Editions by 50%.

My numpad had been operating just fine, but I decided to customize it a bit on https://keyboard.frame.work/ just to try out VIA and see what I can do with it. Now, every time the laptop wakes or boots, the numpad malfunctions. There is no backlight, and keypresses are not registered. In VIA, the numpad appears blank (as in the attached image). I have tried to fix it by reverting the few changes I had made in VIA, but that did not help. I can temporarily resolve the issue by:

We built Framework Desktop to be a tiny, use-case-flexible powerhouse. It’s a small form factor PC that is easy to set up, repair, and modify, while also carrying an immensely powerful AMD Ryzen AI Max processor inside. The high memory capacity, wide memory bandwidth, and large on-package GPU make it excel for local AI workloads and general productivity, but they also enable another use case we’re seeing a ton of excitement around: gaming.

We made a lot of major product announcements throughout the year, and we have one more big one for you today. We’re excited to announce the new Framework Laptop 16, now with AMD Ryzen™ AI 300 Series processors and a graphics upgrade to NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 5070 Laptop GPU! Pre-orders are open now starting at $1,499 USD, with first shipments this November. We first introduced Framework Laptop 16 in 2023 as a high-performance, desktop-replacement 16” laptop that carried in not only our usual repairability and upgradeability, but two bold new systems: fully customizable input and generational upgradeability of graphics. On the latter, especially since so many other laptop brands have failed at it, we knew that the only way we could prove upgradeability is by actually delivering an upgrade. We’ve spent the last two years working with the teams at AMD, NVIDIA, and Compal to not only make a new NVIDIA-powered Graphics Module, but also make it fully backwards compatible with the original Framework Laptop 16. That means any current owner can pick up the new module and get the latest generation of graphics!

Press reviews of Framework Desktop are now live, and we’re starting shipments of Batch 1 pre-orders next week! This was the largest set of press units we’ve ever sent out for a product launch, both because so many reviewers wanted to try it out and because we wanted to show just how incredibly capable Ryzen AI Max is across a range of use cases. The reviews and videos posted today cover gaming, DIY PC building, machine learning, homelab, Linux workstation, and general PC productivity scenarios. Reviewers called out the multi-core performance, the workloads that 128GB of memory can enable, how quiet the system is both at idle and under load, and surprise at just how tiny it is. We have a lot of updates to share with you today: Framework Laptop 12 press reviews are live and shipments are starting, Framework Laptop 13 (AMD Ryzen 300 Series) is now in stock, and we have a number of events coming up!

We’re close to the finish line on Framework Desktop development. We’re now at the end of the DVT2 phase where we complete validation and finalize firmware and drivers. With that, we’re continuing our deep dive series, this time digging into the semi-custom 400W Power Supply we integrated into the product. This may sound mundane, but it’s one of the more complex parts of the product. To align to our product philosophy, we used a standard FlexATX form factor. That means both that you can bring your own compatible power supply or re-use the one we designed in the future with any other ATX-compatible system. If you’re bringing your own, make sure to pick one that can handle at least 32.5A on the 12V rail. Although the “peak” power demand of the AMD Ryzen AI Max processor is 140W, it can actually pull hundreds of watts in millisecond-level bursts. Because there is no battery in the Framework Desktop to absorb this, we sized up the Power Supply to handle it and maximize performance.

The first reviews of the new Framework Laptop 13 (AMD Ryzen AI 300 Series) are now live, and the first Batch 1 customer systems start shipping tomorrow! This is our 7th version of Framework Laptop 13, and the refinement that comes from iteration really comes through in the reviews. With the Ryzen 9 option, this is by far the highest-performance Framework Laptop 13 too, across both multi-threaded CPU compute and graphics. Reviewers also really enjoyed the new translucent Bezel color options.

At the end of our launch livestream last month, we teased Framework Laptop 12 we just posted on our YouTube channel where we go deeper on the design decisions we made.

We dedicated a lot of our launch presentation of Framework Desktop to the Ryzen AI Max processor it uses, and for a good reason. These truly unique, ultra-high-performance parts are the culmination of decades of technology and architecture investments that AMD has made, going all the way back to their acquisition of ATI in 2006. For our first technical deep dive on Framework Desktop, we’re going to go even deeper into Ryzen AI Max and what makes it a killer processor for gaming, workstation, and AI workloads.

We’re happy to share that DeepComputing’s DC-ROMA RISC-V Mainboard for Framework Laptop 13 is now in stock and shipping in the Framework Marketplace. This is very much a developer-focused board to help accelerate maturing the software ecosystem around RISC-V, so we recommend waiting for future RISC-V products if you’re looking for a consumer-ready experience. We shared more detail on the Mainboard in an earlier blog post and video, but as a quick summary, this is powered by a StarFive JH7110 processor that uses the open source RISC-V ISA. The team at DeepComputing designed it to drop directly into a Framework Laptop 13 chassis or Cooler Master Mainboard Case. They have published setup guides for the hardware and for installing Ubuntu and Fedora.

I've been waiting for a few months for the marketplace to get an International English Linux keyboard in stock, as well as the 61Wh battery (both for 13") to upgrade.
