Removed Comment At this point they could be separated file by file into the repo no doubt. I did it for development ease and to make sure everything was interacting properly together for each iteration. To implement one feature you need to touch many parts of the program. html, css, python app, SQLite database logic. Having it all as a giant monolithic program greatly improves a LLMs ability to see every part for context. Having a bunch of separate files is not great for the context window. by hereforawhile@lemmy.ml

Removed Comment I didn't say the keyboard was open source, though I do think I assumed the swipe library would be. That's fair to point out, but I think its still a good project to support so we have a community sourced library instead of dealing with whatever Google gives us by Nednarb44@lemmy.world

Removed Comment AFAIK it's open source, just with a [non-commercial modification requirement](https://github.com/futo-org/android-keyboard/blob/master/LICENSE.md). I'm not sure if that makes it technically not OSS? by TomAwezome@lemmy.world

Removed Comment What is the difference? EDIT: from <https://opensource.stackexchange.com/questions/15273/what-is-the-difference-between-open-source-and-source-available-software> > The [open source definition](https://opensource.org/osd) is not just about being allowed to *read* the sourcecode of an application. It is mostly concerned with the right to change and redistribute the software. > > With a software that is only "source available", you might be able to look at the sourcecode. But you *might* not be allowed to: > > - Change the sourcecode and recompile it, in some cases not even for your personal use. > - Redistribute the sourcecode or the compiled application to other people, with or without changes, under the same license conditions under which you received it. > - Use the program for *any* purpose (Non open-source software often has long End-User License Agreements which prohibit certain ways of using the software). > - Do any of the above things for money. > - Do any of the above things for free. by sem@piefed.blahaj.zone

Removed Comment It looks like [the FUTO keyboard license](https://github.com/futo-org/android-keyboard/blob/master/LICENSE.md) allows all of that, the only exception is that you can't modify it for commercial purposes. Aren't there a lot of other OSS licenses with that same limitation? How is restricting commercial modifications bad? by TomAwezome@lemmy.world

Removed Comment It takes a lot of time and a lot of peoples typing data from my understanding. It's relatively easy for Google to make the glide/Swype type since they have a huge amount of peoples typing data. FUTO on the other hand has been making an open source version for probably 6 months or so no, solely relying on volunteers inputting words on their website. For those interested in helping make the library better: https://swype.futo.org/ (it probably only works on mobile) by Nednarb44@lemmy.world
