I am Gen X and our parents plunked us in front of the TV however there were only 3 channels that often had nothing of interest to kids on. But they also kicked us out of the house all day so we had to find other kids to play with and negotiate with, so got more exercise, had adventures without adults managing every minute of our time. We walked to school by ourselves, no buses picking us up at the door. But the parents didn’t really spend more time with us because they were working… sometimes more than one job and daycare did not exist. Now if you did that as a parent, you would get CPS called on you. Also GenX parents went hard the other way being helicopter parents. I was more of a free range parent so had to find other ones to find kids for my son to do things with like ride bikes to the park or drop off to the movies. There has to be a happy medium.

Border Patrol Officers are extremely unpleasant, as are ICE, rude, brutal and refer to people as “bodies.” They don’t care if they make you miss your connecting flight or detain you for a few weeks or months just because – right from the airport.

Thanks for reminding me to buy radish seeds. Radishes grow pretty quickly and yes, you can roast them and they are delish-- after roasting are less peppery but still good. I want to know if Daikon radishes also have these same properties.

I work in healthcare-- cardiology. So I am frequently handing out business cards for cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, interventional cardiologists, and electrophysiology doctors. Most of the patients appreciate them. Of course, most of those patients are older… Boomer or Xers.

FMLA is for any kind of family leave (children, parents, even your own medical issues) but there are requirements on how long you are employed at a particular place and how many employees they have there. For most small businesses – they do not qualify. Larger institutions/job places do.

You are told after a certain amount of time, if you do not return to work full time, you are laid off/fired and lose your health insurance. By law, they have to offer COBRA health insurance coverage to you but that is like 3X the cost of your insurance while employed. At that point, you apply for state funded health insurance (Medicaid) and are still given a work requirement… 80 hrs a month now unless you can prove disability and it takes at least 2 years to qualify for SSD (Social Security Disability). There are some carve outs… like if you have really bad cancer, there is a Medicaid spend down for treatment, or if you are in kidney failure and need regular hemodialysis.
