For a second I thought this was gonna be the one about Fred and Barney talking about everything being sent back to the stone age due to atomic warfare. Or maybe that was an edit… No idea. Either way, much more wholesome than atomic warfare and nuclear annihilation.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How far back can you remember to your childhood?
3·18 hours agoCouldn’t tellnyou an age. Remember a singular thing about an old house my grandparents lived in. One room had stairs in it that lead to an attic you couldn’t enter without falling through. I remembered the stairs and was just recently told the attic was basically inaccessible.
Then we jump to who knows how old, both before I was ever in school, in a basement. On a folded out couch bed, playing video games. I also vaguely remember some Kids WB nonsense my brothers and I would watch on an old TV.
Those are basically the oldest memories I can think of, at least that I’m willing to share.
Edit:
I personally find these memories strange that I remember since my memory from before a 2nd open heart surgery I had done tend to be kinda fuzzy and all over the place.

6·4 days agoI can’t speak for the whole of my country due to it being the US, but in my city, I don’t know a single place that does takoyaki or hot pot in general.
With hot pot I can see why it wouldn’t be feasible because a parent sues over not watching their kid drop their electronics into the hot oil, but takoyaki wouldn’t be a big deal! I need more takoyaki!

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Movie/TV characters always make it through the craziest plot and somehow not get forever traumatized by it. I wish I could be like that, but instead I stuggle to even make/keep therapy appointments.
11·4 days agoSpoiler for an over a decade old cartoon...
That is one thing I do really like about Legend of Kora. Throughout the show the seasonal antagonists all hold some level of power over her psych and cause her some level of trauma that doesn’t magically disappear the next episode. I think the only exception might be Kuvira since there wasn’t really enough time to get into that.

A Boring Dystopia@lemmy.world•Texas Republican Primary having a normal one
2·5 days agoI have personally never gotten any voting text messages, but I’ve received a few voting emails recently from the scum in my neck of the woods. I personally find it sad and pathetic, but then again, I’m not the type who is easily swayed by an email or text.
Most everything I learned, I learned from my mother. Cannot remember when, but at some point I got saddled with being the one who helps my mom cook most every night. No complaints here since it’s an essential life skill.
Considering you can’t even ask genAI to summarize a page without it falling for prompt injection, what makes me think it could replace a teacher of any subject?
There is no substitute for proper learning and genAI is not even close to a substitute for bad learning, IMO. Best I could get is a massively hallucinated mess that will probably end up causing kids to grow up not actually knowing what 2+2 is because every other week the genAI model changes the answer to another random integer.
I have zero concern for humans teaching as it stands.
QWERTY layout. I was never taught teaching in school because I was part of the “you should already know how to type” 2k schooling. I can also type due to muscle memory ( much more easily on a non-flat keyboard ) but it’s not an efficient typing compared to someone my age from the past who was formally taught touch typing.
Edit:
It also doesn’t help that I usually use just my thumbs, index, and middle fingers to type usually.

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•Godot veteran says 'AI slop' pull requests have become overwhelming
16·6 days agoThis is why I think having something like a cheap buy in per pull request until you become a trusted community member alongside needing to create an account tied to an email and/or phone number you have access to would be one effective way to keep away probably a good chunk of the genAI creeps away, as long as it’s implemented on your own self-hosted git.
It would also make it easy to just ban whoever uses a genAI agent by being able to close their account immediately if need be. It would be a small price to pay that not everybody would be comfortable with, but stability without being flooded with genAI toxic waste is more important in open source right now, IMO, than anything else ( besides the long running social issues there have always been in this male dominated space ).

News@lemmy.world•Hollywood groups condemn ByteDance's AI video generator, claiming copyright infringement
10·7 days agoSince it’s genAI, it’s one of the very few things I will 100% agree on any Hollywood groups on when it comes to business.
I just hope the rest of the big players don’t go down the Dosney route and lose any humanity they have left by using genAI.

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•"Novelist" Boasts That Using AI She Can Churn Out a New Book in 45 Minutes, Says Regular Writers Will Never Be Able to Keep Up
2·8 days agoJust got a 200mb file! It must be such a good book if my toaster of a desktop can’t open it!
Cannot wait to read it on my laptop!
Edit:
Oh god! I was wrong! It is a much bigger file!
Fair enough.

Any time I use the internet, regardless of what connection, I basically always keep it on. I may swap servers in some most likely ineffective way of keeping myself safer from tracking, but otherwise it normally stays on. Only other exception is when flarpak isn’t allowing updates to come through.
