Removed Comment > Friend is a bit different from the original take of not interacting with anyone in the community oh my gd what community are you talking about? community definition - social unit with a shared socially-significant characteristic(s), being place, set of norms, culture, religion, values, customs, or identity. so your take is that everybody contributing source has some socially-significant characteristic, perhaps that they embrace the os ideology is it so? don't you think that people might be publishing code just because they like it and don't really care about os ideology? or maybe it's about the place where they post code, like npm? then how is one supposed to interact with the npm community if it doesn't even have a bloody forum. community is a lie, it exists only in your heads yet if something bad happens to one of the npm developers, nobody will ever be there to help him because all of the sudden, all those people who used the word community 1000 times a day, will have other important characteristics that don't match the person asking for help. the world you're looking for, is a cult by verdeco@programming.dev

Removed Comment Community come together blah blah blah what nonsense, I don't think you have any clue what you're talking about. How many people in "the community" have you actually interacted with? Stop this lie there's no such thing as a community, it's like a 13 yo male constantly talking about sex because he has none, in the same way developers talking about community because there is none. by verdeco@programming.dev

Removed Comment A person who doesn't have a job based on merit or technical ability rejects a grant that requires merit and technical ability. The NSF could have not gone through the foundation of course, as supporting projects/sub-projects or even individual developers directly was always the best way to do it anyway, but it is a uniparty tard-vs-tard posturing game after all. by badmin@lemmy.today

Removed Comment > First of all, let’s remember that Github is a fully proprietary service. Using it to host the development of a free software makes no sense if you value freedom. This is dumb. Where do you draw the line? Is your motherboard firmware open source? Your CPU design? Do you have the CAD models for the office chair you're sitting on? It's not like there aren't plenty of open source alternatives we could switch to easily in a heartbeat so it's not like it's a hard dependency, in the same way that e.g. a language with only a proprietary compiler would be. I stopped reading after this obviously stupid point. by FizzyOrange@programming.dev

Removed Comment > He wasn't malicious, just had no filter. The world is _not_ better with his absence. Dude was brilliant and it is a damn shame he died so young. I personally think there's nothing worse than toxicity in the modern world (not even murder or sexual assault) because of how normalized it's become and how many people it affects. It's all personal opinions though. by GolfNovemberUniform@infosec.pub
