Frequently Asked Questions

Booking:

We recommend clients book their appointment(s) as far in advance as possible to ensure ample appointment availability. Same-day appointments are sometimes available but never guaranteed. We suggest booking 3 days in advance for the best chance of finding an appointment around your desired time.

Appointments can be booked through our website, via email (ethosofannapolis@gmail.com), or by telephone (410-267-0784).

New Client Paperwork:

All new clients must complete our new client paperwork. Paperwork is available to download on our website prior to your appointment, or it may be filled out upon arrival. We kindly request that new clients arrive 10 minutes prior to their appointment; 15 minutes if paperwork has not yet been completed.

All new clients, both massage and facial clients, receive a complimentary consultation with their therapist. This gives you a chance to discuss specific issues or areas of focus and determine the best way to customize your service for your unique skin and/or body needs.

Cancellation Policy:

We pride ourselves on being a premier boutique spa, offering high-end, superior service to our customers in a relaxing, welcoming environment. We kindly request that clients provide at least 24 hours' notice of cancellation. No-shows or appointments canceled less than 24 hours in advance will be responsible for 50% of the full-service charge. We appreciate your understanding.

Spa Location:

We are located at 43 Lafayette Avenue in downtown Annapolis, right off of West Street. Lafayette Avenue is directly across the street from the entrance to the Graduate Annapolis Hotel. Our three-story, brick building is situated on the corner of Lafayette Ave and Shaw Street. There is a sign on the front of the building that reads "The Bakery Lofts." We are located in the bottom unit. The entrance is located at the rear of the building. There are three steps to get to our front door.

Parking:

We have two reserved spots for our clients in a small gravel lot. When on Lafayette Avenue, turn onto Shaw Street, and our gravel lot is immediately behind the building on the left-hand side. The spot closest to the building and the middle spot belong to Ethos. The farthest spot from the building (one closest to the road) is not our spot; please do not park in the third spot. The first spot has a sign that says "Unit 1," and the middle spot has a sign that says "Ethos of Annapolis." Both spots are available for client parking. If neither spot is available, there is two-hour parking on all the surrounding streets. Street parking is free and is 2-hour parking.

Age Requirements:

We gladly provide massage and facial services to minors (children under 18 years of age). While we do not require a parent/guardian to be present at the time of service, it is allowed and encouraged, depending on your child's comfort level. Anyone under 18 must have a consent form signed by a parent, along with written permission to provide services to the child.

Cell Phone Policy:

To respect the wishes of all of our guests, we request that all cell phones and pagers be on vibrate or silent during your visit. If you are expecting an important telephone call, please speak in a quiet voice so as not to disturb our other guests.

Health Concerns:

Please let us know when you schedule your appointment if you are pregnant, have allergies, have recently been injured, or have any health concerns, so we can advise you on the best spa treatments. In some cases, massage or bodywork can be contraindicated (inadvisable), so it is important that we know if you have a specific medical condition or specific symptoms that would affect our ability to give you a massage. In certain cases, a referral from your primary care provider may be required before a service is provided. When you arrive at the spa for your first visit, regardless of whether you are receiving a massage or a facial, you will be asked to fill out a health questionnaire. This will allow our skilled therapists to customize your treatment and ensure that all methods used during your service support your health and never cause harm. Heat treatments are not advisable for guests with heart conditions or high blood pressure, or for people taking medications for those conditions. If you have a cold or flu, we recommend rescheduling your spa treatments, as massage of any kind increases circulation and the release of toxins in the body. This, combined with an immune system already overtaxed, could worsen negative symptoms.

Pregnancy and Massage:

The 1st trimester is the greatest risk for miscarriage. If you are having a normal pregnancy, are in good health, and are at least 15 weeks along, a massage should be okay. If you are one who is at high risk, and if you have previously had a miscarriage, then you should definitely speak to your doctor/ob-gyn to see if massage is safe for you. If you are in good health and still have doubts, you should speak to your doctor/ob-gyn before getting a massage. Our knowledgeable, licensed massage therapists know to avoid certain pressure points that can stimulate labor. Once you are in your second trimester, you should no longer lie on your stomach, so we provide a maternity pillow.

If you are having a normal pregnancy and are in good health, you can get a massage regularly throughout your pregnancy. Please mention how far along you are when booking your appointment.

Alcohol & Recreational Drugs:

Massage or bodywork of any kind increases circulation and speeds the delivery of alcoholic or recreational substances throughout your system. We strongly recommend that any guests who have consumed alcohol or recreational drugs directly before their appointment do not receive their scheduled service. We reserve the right to deny services to any guests who seem to be under the influence of alcohol or recreational drugs. Please be aware that consuming any of these substances within 24 hours after a massage can also have adverse effects.

Gratuity:

Gratuity is not included in the price of our services. Gratuity is welcome and left to our clients' discretion. Payment is preferred via cash or check; however, for your convenience, gratuities can be charged to your credit card.

Retail Returns:

If you are unhappy with any products you purchase from our spa, you may return the unused product within 14 days of the original purchase for a full refund to the original payment method. The original receipt or purchase history for the product must be available. Opened/partially used products may be exchanged only within 14 days from the original purchase.
