If you think “I suck at this” your body will respond with the stress hormone (cortisol) and cause you to feel pretty “sucky” in that situation.
You then function from that place and you probably won’t do all that well.
If instead you think “I am able to tackle this challenge” and start to believe you can, your body will respond to this positivity and you’ll be more likely to complete the task at hand.
