The Interpeer Code
This part of codeberg is the official home for code related to The Interpeer Project.
The Project's mission is to create a future, human-centric Internet -- that is an Internet that is focused on providing humans with what they need. In this day and age, this predominantly relates to the protection of Human Rights in the digital sphere.
But it also means trying to provide the underpinnings for human interactions as they more closely mirror the offline world. This part of these efforts effectively work towards fully distributing the application layer of the Internet, so that the more distributed layers underneath can be used more effectively.
A simple example of this is that in the offline world, if I were to give you an apple, I would not typically ask some third party to hold some kind of identification about myself. I would not ask you to do the same, and with the same third party. I would then also not ask this third party to take the apple from me, and hand it to you.
I would just give you an apple. So why should the Internet be any different to this?
You can read more about the project on the website, or browse the repositories here. There is a place for (draft) specifications that might be of interested. For questions that need answering, reach out on the mailing list, or connect on fedi. And let's not forget IRC!
Finally, if you'd like to help out but don't know how, donations become more and more crucial. The project is backed by a tiny non-profit R&D outfit, and it costs a few thousands a year just to keep that up and running. Any amount is appreciated, though smaller regular donations are significantly more predictable than larger single donations.
