Bug Description

[ Impact ]

Some platforms with cs42l43 need new match entries and linux-firmware to make audio function normally. Add those entries accordingly.

[ Test ]

Install the test kernel
Install proper linux-firmware and firmware-sof
Confirm the audio function normally on the DUT:
        * Checkbox audio test plan
        * Built-in speaker and built-in mic
        * Audio function when headphone is connected to the DUT.

[ Where problems could occur ]

If the match fails, audio won't function normally on those platforms.

Also this may need some blobs in the firmware-sof and linux-firmware to make it work. Failing to include those blobs could render audio unusable on those platforms.

This bug is awaiting verification that the linux-oem-6.11/6.11.0-1010.10 kernel in -proposed solves the problem. Please test the kernel and update this bug with the results. If the problem is solved, change the tag 'verification-needed-noble-linux-oem-6.11' to 'verification-done-noble-linux-oem-6.11'. If the problem still exists, change the tag 'verification-needed-noble-linux-oem-6.11' to 'verification-failed-noble-linux-oem-6.11'.

If verification is not done by 5 working days from today, this fix will be dropped from the source code, and this bug will be closed.

See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Thank you!

Hello Leo, or anyone else affected,

Accepted linux-firmware into oracular-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-firmware/20240913.gita34e7a5f-0ubuntu2.4 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-oracular to verification-done-oracular. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed-oracular. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s) fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in -proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

All autopkgtests for the newly accepted linux-firmware (20240318.git3b128b60-0ubuntu2.7) for noble have finished running.
The following regressions have been reported in tests triggered by the package:

linux-firmware-raspi/12-0ubuntu1 (armhf)

Please visit the excuses page listed below and investigate the failures, proceeding afterwards as per the StableReleaseUpdates policy regarding autopkgtest regressions [1].

ODM tested with the following procedure for both noble and oracular linux-firmware:

1. Enabled the -proposed channel and install the linux-firmware.
2. Test the built-in speakers and mics.

And confirmed that both audio record and playback function normally.

For the record I've also verified that personally with the following steps:

1. Verify -proposed by installing the "-proposed" noble OEM image track and test the audio functions.
2. Run do-release-upgrade and upgrade to oracular.
3. Enable -proposed in oracular, install the proposed firmware-sof-signed (2024.06-1ubuntu1.3) and the -proposed linux-firwmare.
4. Verify audio functions by recording and replay the test audio output in the "Sound" tab gnome control center. Comfirm that both playback and recording works.

which proposed firmware-sof does this need? it's not mentioned or linked here

the current sru of firmware-sof has only 2093077 which doesn't seem related?

I think the firmware-sof are [1][2], but IIRC they had been in -proposed firmware-sof by the time I was working on this. Can't remember which exact version they were SRUed so I just install the -proposed one blindly.
