Bug Description

`online-accounts-preferences` crashes immediately when opened. It crashes when you launch it by first opening "System Settings" via the launcher then choosing "Online Accounts" as well as when you open it directly by choosing "Online Accounts" from the launcher. It also crashes immediately when opened by running the `online-accounts-preferences` command on the command line.

Here's the output it gives:

% online-accounts-preferences
credentials-cc-panel-Message: cc-credentials-account-applications-model.vala:156: No valid plugin found for application 'shotwell' with account '1'
credentials-cc-panel-Message: cc-credentials-account-applications-model.vala:156: No valid plugin found for application 'unity-scope-gdrive' with account '1'
credentials-cc-panel-Message: cc-credentials-account-applications-model.vala:156: No valid plugin found for application 'unity-lens-photos' with account '1'

This bug affects me too. At first it worked fine and I add my google account and set what to sync. I think I closed and opened the app several times too, but it didn't crash.

1. Then when I right click an empathy contact and select "Information" Contacts app started with asking to create an address book local or online.
2. There was only one option to create a local address book. So selected that.
3.After doing that even before adding a contact to the address book I opened online accounts but it crashed right after opening.

In order to overcome this I set my status to "Offline", after that I am able to manage accounts by pressing "F4" than I change my status back to "Available"

I also have this problem, removing and re-adding my google account doesn't fix it. Oleksandr's workaround helped for me.

The problem only appears for me if my Google account is set up.

I found on the internet that other people had problems with gnome-online-accounts using 2-factor authentication using gmail. This is also the case here for me, I have 2-factor authentication enabled and are experiencing this problem. My partner doesn't have 2-factor authentication and has no problems.

Do other people experiencing this bug also only have this with gmail and two-factor authentication enabled?

Good call, @maarten-fonville! I am also using two-factor authentication. I'm not going to disable it to test. I have not noticed or checked whether the problem occurs without two-factor authentication.

I also have this issue. Oleksandr's workaround also helps, but if I launch online-accounts-preferences from terminal, the error is displayed even if panel opens.
When this happens, I noticed that my icq plugin does not allow me to modify my account, the whole page is greyed out and the only thing I can do is remove the account. if I remove and re-add the account, I am still unable to enter account information. Not sure if it is related or a completely separate bug.

@justin-force, I also have the problem, and I don't use two-factor authentication for my google account, so I can confirm, that the problem occurs without it as well. (Oleksandr's workaround worked for me too.)

I'm not using two-factor authentication and I get the same issue.

After going offline and removing my two Google accounts the crashing stops, but I still get this message:

credentials-cc-panel-Message: cc-credentials-account-applications-model.vala:156: No valid plugin found for application 'shotwell' with account '7'

Before removing the previous two account it was '6'.

In seahorse the two accounts I have added are now represented by these four entries:

Ubuntu Web Account: id 10-1
Ubuntu Web Account: id 10-3
Ubuntu Web Account: id 11-1
Ubuntu Web Account: id 11-3

There is something really strange going on with authentication. The Google accounts fail to connect half the time. Removing and readding them works, but that is not much of a workaround.

This workaround from Oleksandr worked for me too!

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center-signon/+bug/1174936/comments/5

The issue I had was when having a Google account in Ubuntu online-accounts and when it is selected from the left menu, the online-accounts panel crashes.
