I really liked this film for about 3/4 of the run time— the movie is visually stunning, and if you’re a symbology nerd like me, there’s lots to love.
That being said, the last 1/4 of the movie ruined a lot of what I loved about the film—because it scared me. At the core of it, my visceral reaction WAS fear because it made the parallel message of ending “cults”, and becoming a martyr feel like a call to action.…

I would pay money not to see this movie again
This movie wasted all potential it had. Sue is a walking uterus, with no definable personality outside being a mother (mirrored by Julia Garner’s character). The only thing more insulting than her dying at the end was her literally being saved by motherhood.
And that’s not the worst motherhood trope it leaned into! She has a “mother lifts car off baby” moment that was designed to make us forget that…
