“Employers need to be more like Automattic in general. Automattic raises the bar high, that’s for sure.”

How we pay

As a distributed company, to attract diverse talent worldwide, we pay global ranges and prioritize internal equity regardless of location. We seek people who embody our Creed, support our mission, and aim to excel.

When making an offer, Automattic’s team considers factors including the initial expectations provided, prior experience in a similar role, and feedback during the process in line with the salary range benchmarks internally. We do this to create an equitable and attractive package. Pay will reflect the potential contribution and impact you can bring, which may, in some cases, go beyond the range stated. Offers are communicated by our HR team, whom you’ll meet during the process.

When you join us, we’ll reward you based on your customer impact, mission focus, and revenue contribution. We review pay every 12–18 months, considering your contribution, business performance, and global ranges, paying in local currency when possible. That said, we’re still human and make mistakes; if you think an error has been made, please let us know.

Beyond salary

We support work-life balance with open AFK time off, three-month sabbaticals every five years, wellness support, and various leaves, including parental and medical. Our philosophy extends beyond salary: we embrace continuous learning, encourage feedback, offer 1:1 coaching and development opportunities, share partial ownership with everyone who works here, and provide generous benefits.
