Interview No. 6
Interviewer: @Cyprus
Interviewee: @Dom-Price
Original Date: 2001
Q: How long have you been using Flash and what inspired you to use it?
A: Well, I have been using flash for about a year now. My first creation was called pikasizzle, which was basically a lame attempt at a fan assassin mission. I was first inspired to use flash when I came across Newgrounds and Slitfinger. I thought my own sick website would be a creative outlet for my warped personality. I honestly did not think it would get me as far as it did, I guess I have Tom to thank for the publicity.
Q: How long have you been a fan of Newgrounds? Anything you would do to make it more efficient?
A: I have been surfing newgrounds since Feburary of 2000. It would be a good idea to finish that Network News section, a lot of the other Network Webmaster would probably agree that they have a lot to announce, but no where to announce it outside their own sites and the NG BBS.
Q: You were getting a lot of criticism on the Newgrounds BBS about your site being a complete rip off of Newgrounds, if you could say one thing to them all what would it be?
A: I think it was a complete waste of my time having to answer to all the critcism. It was time taken away from production which could have been spent on the people who actually liked the site. I managed to reason with a lot of the critics. however a few (I wont name names), would not let it be and continued to nag me until the middle of November until I completely shut down and overhauled the entire site. But, in the end, the criticism did motivate me to make a nice design for the site.
Q:What movies are you currently working on? And what are they going to be about?
A: Im currently working on my first feature length movie; Clockwork Gogo. Its going to be about 10 minutes long and be over 2 Megabytes in size. It has an all star voice cast featuring Tommunism, Tom Fulp, Sylvan (Who did Vegeta's Problem) myself of course, and a few other people. Its going to kick total ass according to everyone working with me on the project. The basic animation has begun and its only a matter of weeks until its is released. I'm also working on a few missions to send into assassin.
Q: Who is your favorite flash animator that is in the portal? And what is your favorite movie in the portal?
A: I really don't have a single favorite animator. But I have always loved the works of Jeremy Mills, Tommunism, The Romper, and Slitfinger, Just to name a few. I found Jeremy's Ranebo Brite series some of the funniest flash I have ever seen. One of the Mobiusfactor Staff members, Rego, is also a fan of the Ranebo Brite series . I am also a huge fan of the "Scrotum the Puppy" . I found Tommunism's flash extremely sick and amusing. He was actually the first site to affiliate with Mobiusfactor.
Q: How do you feel about George W. being our new president? Considering in his first month in office someone has already tried to assassinate him and now he is bombing Iraq?
A: Don't even mention Bush. Im not a big Gore fan either, but please. I hate his entire fucking cabinet as well. Especially John Ashcroft, our new Attourney General. This man has his finger on the pulse of the first amendment. I normally dispise closed minded conservatives, but Ashcroft takes the cake. I don't like the idea of him replacing good old fashioned violent entertainment like that found on MF and NG, with his bible thumper bullshit. If that happens, please, shoot me. (Not to be taken litterally)
NOTE FROM TOM: Not to defend Ashcroft, but Democrat Joe Lieberman is the biggest voice against violence in video games and the media, and is currently pushing for legislation to make webmasters more liable for the mature content on their site. Politicians suck in general.
Q: How do you think the world of flash animation has changed in the past year (Flash itself, how many sites there are with it, the animation)? Where do you think it will go in the future?
A: When I first logged onto the internet at school 4 years ago, there was no such thing as Flash. In this past year alone I have seen thousands of small flash sites pop up out of nothing. There are several professional sites I have been to besides Newgrounds. Such as CampChaos.com and Jibjab.com. On the NG fan net alone there are more than 500 small low budget flash sites, each of them striving to reach the goals that all of us NG network sites have achieved. I wouldn't overlook some of these little crap sites a lot them are actually better than some of the network sites. They are going places. I try to give each of them a good look over before I say they suck. Flash for me has changed a lot. I have learned more and more from the program by experimentation. A lot of people don't realize that a lot of the talent that me and Tom, and all the other network site have aquired, comes from experimentation. Anyone can be as good as these professionals, it just takes a lot of patience.
Q: Your spotlight character seems to be Gogo (as Newgrounds has Pico and Slitfinger has Scrotum the Puppy), how did you come up with him? And are there any interesting facts about how you came up with him?
A: Yes, Gogo is actually a character I created a long time ago, back in Middle School. He is supposed to be a bird with a bad attitude and a foul mouth. His friends are Shorty, a mute penguin; and Timmy, a pot smoking porn addict with IQ of a rock. They were originally part of a series of comic books that I created back in the seventh grade. I perfected them in the eighth grade when I gave them their current personalities. Shorty also had his own series called "1001 deaths of Shorty the Penquin", in which every episode was about him dying in some inhumane bloody fashion. My teachers actually enjoyed the more vulgar episodes. My Middle School art teacher was a fan of Beavis and Butthead, he also enjoyed Gogo and Timmy's vulgar antics.
Q: You like to draw anime as it says on your site. Do you watch any Anime shows on t.v?
A: Do I ever! My favorite shows are Outlaw Star, Tenchi Muyo, and Dragon Ball Z (Yeah, I like it, so shoot me!) I also watch the occasional anime movie when I can get my hands on them. Some of my favorites are Akira , Iria, the Animation, and Beautiful Dreamer. One of my asian friends, another anime fan, recommended I watch Fiuushi Ugi. I might take her up on that. I also play a lot of anime based RPG's. My favorite anime RPG of all time would have to be Xenogears.
Q: If you could sum up all of Newgrounds including the people involved in it and all the content on it in one word, what would it be?
A: Unorthodox, because a lot of the content on Newgrounds is quite the opposite to what society believes is "right". I think I fit to that category quite well, as does Tom and Ross, and everyone on NG. I feel that Ng is a place for crazy people like us to have a voice, instead of being shut out by society. I think NG is a Society of its own.
Q: Do you think we should save the whales?
A: Of course we should. despite the asshole I appear to be, I actually have a soft spot for animals. I love animals. A lot of species have disappeared off this planet forever as a result of human incompetence. I think if humanity is going to continue playing god, it should at least show some compassion to life forms not blessed with opposable thumbs and the ability to speak.
Q: Where do you currently live? Do you like it there?
A: I live in Pensacola Florida. The sunshine and warm weather almost all year around is a plus. I live very close to the Gulf of Mexico, about 4 miles to be exact. I love the beach, even though the women there never look at me. However we are so close to alabama here, that the radical southern baptists basically have rule over the area, so you can imgaine the persecution my site is under locally. We have four churches in our neighbor hood, all a two minute walk from each other. Tell me, do we really need that much fucking reassurance in God? I think its just paranoia. Thats what I get for living in the bible belt. Besides the religious bible thumpers at my throat, I'd say its pretty fucking nice here.
Q: Any final thoughts or views you would like to express?
A: Yes, I think people are hypocrites. Everyone is, myself included. This is what I play on in my satire. Everyone wants to save the whales, but not the Tuna. Everyone wants to be loved, but no one is willing to give up a part of themselves and love another. Everyone wants to be heard, but no one will shut up and let someone else talk.
I feel that as human beings we cannot break this habit, because it is in our nature. People do things like this because they can. I see it all the time. The religious fanatics I see condemning columbine, are no better than the shooters themselves. They too would not hesitate to condemn someone because they don't agree on the issues that they hold dear. The only difference between those shooters and those preachers, is that the preachers make it look civilized, when in reality, they are no better. We are all the shooters and the preachers, and that is something humanity is going to have to live with. Is the fact that not everyone is a majority. And not everyone cares.
