USB key icon in launcher does not respond

Asked by peterzay

In Ubuntu 25.10, when you insert a USB key, you get an icon in the launcher.

However, when you click on this icon, nothing happens. This is 100% reproducible.

The workaround is to click on file manager and then the USB key shortcut at the bottom left.

I would like to report this bug. What package do you suggest?

Sounds like a Dock handler bug, not Files itself. The USB icon you’re clicking is provided by Ubuntu’s Dock (the Ubuntu fork of Dash-to-Dock), so report it against the package gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock.

Easiest way: run ubuntu-bug gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock right after reproducing the issue so logs get attached. In the report, include your GNOME Shell and Nautilus versions (gnome-shell --version, nautilus --version), whether you’re on Wayland or Xorg, and the exact repro steps (insert USB → launcher shows device → click does nothing → opening Files then works). If a triager thinks it’s upstream GNOME Shell instead, they’ll bounce it, but starting with Ubuntu Dock is the right place.

Can you help with this problem?
