discover fails to update generic nvidia 6.14.29.29

Asked by B Dema

"Dependency resolution failed: The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  linux-modules-nvidia-575-6.14.0-29-generic: Depends: linux-signatures-nvidia-6.14.0-29-generic (= 6.14.0-29.29) but 6.14.0-29.29+1 is to be installed"

My question is wtf am I supposed to do about it? I'm too much of a Ubuntu noob to know how to post a bug report, in spite of having read the rules on the bug report page. Maybe if there was a plain English noob version with really dumbed down explanations and step by step exmples.

I checked the "software source" app, then looked under additional drivers, which states I'm using manually installed drivers.
I don't know howto install drivers manually and don't recall doing so ( most likely it was installed like this from the iso install ), but Discover is set to run daily update checks which either forces me to deselect all the nvidia related driver updates or stop the update checks until this issue is resolved.

This is a new message that has been popping up since September 14 2025.
The message at the top of this post in quotes was generated by Discover when the update failed.

I'm new to linux/Ubuntu so try to be patient, but I understand most of the basics and feel comfortable running scripts and/or editing conf files and navigating through the CLI/BASH.

I realize this issue may resolve itself within the next week so I am not in a rush.

I lucked out, running sudo apt update and then sudo apt upgrade ignored the error and forced the drivers for nvidia 580 drivers.
Also ran sudo apt autoremove to clean out the nvidia 575 driver files.

It seems stable for now.
