Story behind it? Mine goes into the imagination of the child. Strolling through a forest, possibly even one during a family vacation, new place and smells and sights. Then kid gets onto some clearing, blinded by the sun, and thanks to the bed time stories of the parents he images that old, gnarled tree stump to be a dragon. (Might be too creative, the child looks rather young.)
As for the story?
Little kid's set himself on an adventure to explore the Old Ring, a circle of strangely-decorated stones deep inside the forest his neighborhood backs up to. Along the way he picks up a dead branch, uses it like a staff, imagining himself to be like Gandalf (his most favoritest character in the whole world).
When he finds the circle, he asks himself what Gandalf would do? Obviously, he'd lean his staff against one of the decorated monoliths... And when the kid does this, two things happen: the patterns on the monolith glow green, and brightly-colored leaves emerge on the branch.
"Are you lost, little one?" asks a deep voice from inside the circle, and the kid stares, then grins. This is the best adventure of his life!
(I dig this kind of stuff. Heck, I even wrote up and posted to FA a short story for my Enclave universe that's very close to what's shown in this picture!)
I dunno. Oo.
Very lucky kid <3
This is stunningly beautiful!
