One of the last Conrail GE C40-8 standard-cab locomotives not repainted for Norfolk Southern sits with a coal train at Colehour Yard, seen from South Chicago Junction through the abandoned New York Central lift bridge over the Calumet River, its lift chains and counterweight frozen in time. The engine is about a mile away from where I was standing, across the river in Chicago's East Side.

Yesterday along I-84, there was a train running east and there was a Ferrocarril Mexicano engine being pulled behind a UP engine. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of them “in person”…I wonder what it was doing so far north?
