Lame title, I know XD
Anyways. Jasmo over on DeviantArt asked me to draw her a gray dappled quarter horse and here it is :) the foal was not part of the deal but I just felt like adding one in, plus it gave me an excuse to practice some more on foal anatomy.
I had a hard time making up my mind if it looks ugly with invisible outlines or if I should change them back to semi invisible (as I usually do) or just entirely black...

Hm. Now this one is rather interesting. Haven't seen a lot of horse related artwork as of recent. Well.. feral horse.
It's the fact that you happened to draw an entire scene for them which I find myself admiring. It's not just two horses standing there. No. It's a tree in the background, clouds, and then a bush in front of them, as well as grass. It's the scenery works well for it after all. You put a lot of time into making it, so it would be wrong to just outright ignore it now wouldn't it? Besides, it adds a lot more color to the picture and happens to just plainly look amazing to me. (As I know full well I can't even remotely accomplish something like that. ^ ^;)
(You know for all those times I DON'T draw...)
Moving along from that.. I like how you colored the foal there the most. It's so smoothly done, but nicely put in as it shows where the muscle tone and frame work of the horse are. Like... I can see where the 'shoulder' and joints of said horse are. Not a lot of people do that anymore, and thus I must salute you for that one Ziba chan. I truly do.
The larger horse was nicely done because, although it's a dull gray, it's a realistic color for a horse. (Which I'm glad to see because everyone on FA is on some weird ass unicorn kick...) It looks like it's spotted and that's nicely done as.. no, I still can't do spots at all. However, I do so enjoy how you've manged to get the color blend of gray to go into dark gray at the end of the nose and the feet. That I have to say is pretty slick.
....what. You didn't think I wouldn't notice? :P
Still, that being said, this is a rather impressive picture here Ziba chan.
If you aren't proud already, you should be~ :)
And yes your right, it did take a long time to finish with all those details, especially in the background and I could not agree with you more. Seeing feral horse drawings is very rare these days and when you do see some they are all drawn with weird colors and/or drawn in "Spirit" style, like if people lack the skill to actually come up with their own drawing style, gee... But anyways :)
The foal was very easy to color and shade (brown is an easy color to work around with) The mare however was rather hard and demanded several layers as gray is a very hard color to shade and you were not wrong thinking that it looks like it has spots. Dappled horses do have spots, although very hard to see spots as they blend in to their multicolored/multishaded gray fur

The darker gray muzzle and legs I did using semi transparent layers :)
Once again, thank you so much for your always so very kind words, they are very much appreciated LightLion :)
May I ask if this does look better or if I should stick with my usual colored outlines rather than making them invisible like in this drawing?
