How to send an email

A walkthrough on sending an email marketing campaign

Written by Mark

Hive’s email campaign builder is designed to make creating, targeting, and sending campaigns simple while helping you maintain high deliverability.

Getting started

  1. In the left sidebar, click Campaigns > Email.

  2. Click + New email campaign in the top-right corner.

  3. Select Email campaign (one-time).

Choose recipients

  1. Choose who will receive your campaign based on demographics, location, or segments.

  2. Click Add filters to explore available filters, or leave blank to send to all contacts.

    • All event data filters let you target based on ticketing data — Hive’s most powerful filtering option.

  3. Apply filters to segment your audience. Well-segmented campaigns perform better and support strong deliverability.

Learn more in our guide on how to use filters in Hive.

Note: If no filters are applied, your email will be sent to all contacts.

Engagement levels

  1. Choose recipients by engagement level:

    • Highly engaged subscribers for your main campaigns

    • At-risk or inactive subscribers for re-engagement campaigns

  2. By default, inactive subscribers are excluded to protect deliverability.

  3. Contacts who have unsubscribed, have invalid addresses, or reported spam will never receive emails.

Campaign details

  1. Enter your subject line and preview text.

    • If the subject line matches the campaign name, it won’t display separately on the campaigns page.

  2. Choose your From email address.

    • By default, Hive uses a reliable Hive domain.

    • You can connect your own custom subdomain if preferred. Learn more in our guide on setting up custom subdomains.

  3. Select whether to send immediately or schedule for later.

    • Toggle to At a specific date & time to set your send schedule.

Choose a template

  • Select from existing templates, Hive defaults, or start from scratch with layouts, plain text, or HTML.

  • Use pre-branded templates to save time on future campaigns.

Customize template

  • If your template is ready, send a test email or use preview email to check your design.

  • Use the drag-and-drop editor to add or edit content.

  • Look for the Event details icon to quickly insert event blocks with pre-filled details and purchase links.

  • Use the image uploader to build a reusable image library.

Learn more in our guide on using the template editor.

Deliverability rating

Hive reviews your campaign setup and provides recommendations based on:

  • Subject line

  • Preview text

  • Template content

It will also check any links to ensure they’re working.

Confirm & send

  • Review the summary of your campaign.

  • Click Confirm & send campaign.

Note: If you scheduled the campaign for later, it will move from Drafts to Scheduled.
