It’s important to pick a contest winner quickly to keep the excitement and trust of your participants. Timely winner selection also helps maintain engagement, ensuring entrants feel the contest was fair and rewarding. You can either pick a winner yourself using your own criteria, or let Hive select one at random for you.
Pick a random winner manually
Go to your capture tools section, click on contests and select the contest you’d like to choose a winner for.
Click All entrants to see details on everyone who entered.
From there, click the pick random winner button in the top right corner.
Note: Clicking pick random winner doesn’t automatically notify the winner. To let them know, click the send email option in the popup.
Pick and notify a contest winner with an automation
If you’d like Hive to handle both selecting and notifying the winner, you can enable the auto-select winner option when setting up your contest.
Here’s how:
In your contest setup, check the auto-select winners box and select the number of winners. Save these contest settings.
Click share/embed in the left-hand navigation.
You’ll see two automation options:
One to message entrants when they sign up
One to automatically notify winners
By default, these automations are set up for SMS, but you can easily switch them to email:
Open the automation template for notifying winners.
Optional- delete the SMS action, click the + symbol, and add an email action instead.
Pro tip: Don’t forget about the non-winners. You can use the “No” branch of the automation split to thank participants, and even include a small reward (like a discount code) to keep them engaged.
