Once you’ve connected your Shopify store to Hive, you’ll see a set of pre-built automations tailored specifically to your Shopify integration. If you still need to connect your store, you can follow the steps in this help article.
These automations are designed to welcome new subscribers, engage folks when their buying intent is high, and reconnect with them when their activity starts to taper off.
Below is a list of the pre-built Shopify automations available in Hive and what each one does.

Using a pre-built shopify automation
Using a pre-built Shopify automation is easy! Once your Shopify account is connected, head to Campaigns > Automations, then click + New automation in the upper right-hand corner.
From there, choose the automation you’d like to launch by clicking on its tile. This will open a draft version with the entry trigger, global rules, time delay, and actions (like emails and SMS) already set up for you.
In many cases, you won’t need to adjust the entry trigger or add any additional global rules, as these are already tailored to that specific automation—but you can always click into those sections and tweak them if needed.
Note: If you don’t want to add or modify any global rules, just click into the Global rules section and hit Continue. If you’d like a refresher on the basics of building automations, check out this help article.
One step you’ll always want to take with your pre-built Shopify automations is to click into the message (email or SMS) and customize the content so it matches your branding and tone.
Once you’re happy with everything, save your automation and toggle it live using the controls in the upper right-hand corner.
Abandoned cart
Abandoned cart flows are some of the most valuable Shopify automations you can run because they target your most interested subscribers—people who’ve built a cart but haven’t completed checkout.
Note: By default, Shopify has its own abandoned checkout email turned on. It’s a very simple message, but if you decide to use Hive’s abandoned buyer automation, we’d recommend toggling off the Shopify email so customers don’t receive duplicate messages.
Abandoned cart in Hive
In Hive, the simple abandoned cart automation sends one follow-up email to any contact who abandons their cart, regardless of the cart value.
The advanced abandoned cart automation goes a step further by splitting contacts into two groups: those with more than $100 in their cart receive one version of the email, while those with under $100 receive another. This automation also includes multiple email touch points that will be sent if the contact doesn’t complete their purchase.
To edit any of the templated emails in the automation (which is highly recommended, since they’re just placeholders meant to be customized), click on the email step, then in the pop-up scroll down and select Edit. If you need a refresher on how to navigate the email editor, check out this help article.
The default abandoned cart email templates include placeholders that automatically showcase items from the cart in the follow-up email, along with a link back to their abandoned cart to complete the purchase.
This will automatically update based on the contact who built the cart, so each email will be unique to its recipient.
If you click into the abandoned items content block, you can further customize this sections— for example, toggling on a buy button, adjusting padding, updating text, and more to better match your brand and goals.
Note: The block can display the most recently viewed or carted items (up to 25).
Abandoned cart example
Here’s an example of a simple abandoned cart email. If and when someone receives this email and clicks the “Complete Your Purchase” button, they’ll be taken back to their abandoned cart with all of their items waiting for them.
